I'm OK with the Lawson pick... But Paxton Lynch would've been OK as well.

This smarts. Not knowing his shoulder was so close to surgery, always Lawson.

If I had a medical staff to alarm me, well....a whole bunch of players, including Ragland which would have saved another pick later. Changes the whole equation.

I'm still good with the Lawson pick, but really the only ones I would have gone after at 19 would have been Ragland or Treadwell...maybe Butler.

Ragland, Butler, Ogbah, Reed, Dodd, Spence. I don't think anyone expected those first two rounds to go like that. Have to figure if we took Ragland round 1 we could have sat where we were and had a shot at Reed, Cravens, Whitehair, Vonn Bell, Shilique Calhoun.....and still had a shot in 3 for Billings, Hargrave, or Fackrell with an extra 4th.

I still like the Lawson pick too. But I wouldnt of minded if we went after Myles Jack. Outside of him, Shaq was the right pick.

But we would have been fine with picking Ragland at #19.

Instead, we got both Lawson and Ragland for a couple Saturday draft picks.

Explain to me again how that is bad ?

I would have taken Lynch or traded down. We had a shortage of picks so getting more would have been nice. Instead we use one on a guy that probably won't contribute much this year and reduce our picks further by trading up. Then we draft a QB that will very likely bust. But it was a better draft than most of ours. At least I didn't know immediately our first pick was a bust like a Maybin or Losman.

It's not as this is a chicken little response by some posters who see everything this team as negative. I admit I used to be in this vein but I understand that Whaley is building this roster and trying to set things up for if Tyrod succeeds or fails. I mean think about it, if he fails then we have a developing QB behind him, if he fails we still have a developing QB and can draft a QB early next year if Jones doesn't catch on quick or we might be able to get another veteran to start while Jones still develops.

and if we drafted Lynch we'd get even less production unless Tyrod was a disaster or got hurt again.

Well, at least to me because I felt this was a very deep useful draft with solid Saturday AND Sunday possibilities, regardless of past circumstances and precedents. This year was this year. If you change the draft order you have alternatives.

Massively improve 2 spots then have three lesser, or 1 massive improvement with 1 very good one and two good ones and a lesser. The good teams build across the board imho and I don't write off Saturday and Sunday draft picks in any case. Doesn't make sense to. If UDFA's make teams and contribute, so can any pick if your scouting is that good. People talk like there should only be 3 rounds and over. Nah.

I'm still great with picking Lawson with what I knew at the time, wouldn't write him off though it's disappointing. I still like having Ragland on the team, am still a little put off by the price but hey.

Now it just comes down to seeing what happens.

True. But QB is a very different equation than any other position on the field, no? You just have to have it covered. Lynch would have been insurance against Tyrod not performing or leaving. If the Bills were stone cold sold on Tyrod fine trade down before you take a guy that might need surgery

As someone that was calling for us to draft Conner Cook in Round 2 or later I understand that QB is different. Yet to me Whaley is playing it safe with what he did in taking the 3 guys on defense first. As to me Tyrod's play last year to me equates to David Garrard's play in Jacksonville. He was never an elite QB but still good QB. Jones can be equated to the year they took Byron Leftwich. As he has better measurables but may not be NFL ready yet a lesser risk due to being a 4th Rounder. To me if Tyrod reproduces his 2015 numbers and shoves he's improved play we could franchise him for one year and give Jones another year to develop. Or if Tyrod struggles we could draft a QB with our top pick in 2017 and still work to develop Jones. To me it shows he isn't short sighted but instead truly building this team which in years past was a one or two window where this window larger due to keep core guys like Dareus and Glenn in toe and building depth at RB and DT etc..

A case could be made for every other first round pick after the Bills as a fit for the team in whole.
