Tim Murray emerged from the NHL general mangers meetings Thursday night the Hyatt Regency with this bit of news: He's not moving up in Friday's NHL Draft, although it's not for a lack of trying.

"Right now I can't move up into the top three, so I don't see a point of moving to four or five or six," Murray told The Buffalo News. "There's three guys I've said all along we're interested in. We may have a choice but I doubt it. That's how we read the draft. We're happy with those three guys. There's no point in moving to four or five. We don't see that big a difference to play a big price."

I'm still not sure how it all works out over time, but I like Tim Murray. I think he's done about what any GM should or can do, been as straight up as one could be, should be or that I could enjoy listening to for the lack of editorial and the determined bare bones simple insight.

Can't imagine him knowing what to do with himself if he took a day off. Can't imagine him not having a logical reasoned train of thought and simply stating it when appropriate. Can't imagine him saying anything he doesn't mean.

I hope he's around for a long time and it works out. The guy has a certain credibility, stability and focus uncommon to Buffalo sports for a long time.

They won't be picking at 8 according to this:

Where do you see that? It's all speculation. If the Ducks want #8 for Fowler they can kick rocks.

I hope they don't move up. 8 is still pretty high, and we have a ton of youth already. It's time to win now. I realize the team is still a year or two away in terms of talent and development, but I'd rather see guys who can teach the youth how to win than more prospects.

I think the sabres can be in the playoffs with minimal upgrades. second half of the season they were a 92 or 96pt team if they had that production in first half. you add one or two pieces, they should compete for 8spot easily.

A healthy ennis and kane, as well as a better girgs (assuming no moves) can go a long way
