    Backup QB spot - Article

    Fourth-year NFL pro Travis Brown is at the point of his career where it’s time for him to challenge wily, 11-year veteran Alex Van Pelt for the Buffalo Bills backup quarterback job.

    As competitions go, it’s not exactly Doug Flutie vs. Rob Johnson. More like vanilla pudding instead of three-alarm chili. Van Pelt is playing the role of a confident big brother saying, “ Hey, kid, what can I do to help you?’ ”

    What can AVP do to help Brown become #2? Stop showing up to camp, that's what. I'm sorry but I can't get excited over the prospect of Brown being the #2 and potentially the QB of the future. Maybe last year or the year before I could, but not now. He'll have to prove he's nothing more than a scrub the coaching staff personally likes.
