Tyrod Taylor went three and out on the first series of the a shortened scrimmage that saw each unit only get three series. EJ Manuel hit Marquise Goodwin for a 43 yard touchdown on his first series. Taylor hit Robert Woods for a 36 yard score later in the scrimmage. Aaron Williams delivered a big hit on James Wilder Jr. without any ill effects on his neck. Zach Brown got first team reps for Reggie Ragland. Reggie Bush was back deep for two punt returns and fair caught both of them. Cardale Jones hit Jarett Boykin for a 52 yard touchdown to end the scrimmage. An interesting sight at the scrimmage was seeing the Bills cap and lead contract negotiator Jim Overdorf talking to Taylor's agent Adisa Bakari.

The Bills didn't produce much offense in their scrimmage

Pittsford, NY (WGR 550) -- The Bills couldn’t do everything in their Saturday scrimmage because they were down to three inside linebackers. They didn’t do the two-minute drill which cut practice 20 minutes short.

The team did all 11-on-11 with all three groups getting three chances.

I thought Tyrod Taylor looked very good going 8-of-11 for 89 yards. There was one throw that showed what all the hard work may produce. Taylor was out in California with his receivers this spring with Robert Woods getting them on USC’s field. Taylor made a perfect throw down the right sideline trusting that Woods would out battle five year vet Corey White. White has played 48 NFL games with New Orleans, Arizona and Dallas. He had tight coverage on Woods, but Taylor put the ball where he knew Woods could get it and make a play for a 36 yard touchdown. Taylor said he knew he could put the ball up there for Woods, “For sure and that’s something we’ve been talking about since last year, just getting on the same page, me trusting him and him going out there and making plays and we’ve been doing it all spring. We started off in training camp, just got to continue to keep building and staying on the same page.”

Woods played hurt for a lot of last season, but still had three touchdowns after having five the year before. Woods said, “Yeah it was. He even called it out in the huddle. He called the play, knew what it was and I want him to throw the ball out there, throw the ball. It may look like we’re covered, but you put it out there, we’re going to go get it. Same with all our receivers, we want a chance to go get the ball, catch the ball, and you’ve seen that a few times today.”

That was the only TD the first team O scored.

In one drive some good running by James Wilder Jr. and Mike Gillislee got the ball in a 3rd-and-1 situation. Wilder got stopped for no gain and on 4th down, Ron Darby stood up Goodwin for no gain and they turned the ball over on downs.

Manuel’s next series lasted one play when Kevon Seymour just hammered Dan O’Leary. The ball popped up and Corey Graham had an interception.

Since I’ve been back from vacation I’ve seen Cardale Jones twice and to be quite honest, I think he’s been OK. He was running a very efficient drive when RB Boom Herron got the first down up the middle, but lost the ball and it was recovered by Colt Anderson to stall the drive.

Jones got a field goal from Jordan Gay on his third drive thanks to a nice 52 yard completion Jarrett Boykin.

Boykin has 39 NFL games with Green Bay and he got open with Jonathan Dowling twirling behind him.

Jones made the play after being sacked by Eric Striker.

That got Jones inside the 10 and he almost lost his field goal. Jones threw a bad pass to the back of the end zone that was almost picked by Anderson.

Jonathan Williams ran hard in this scrimmage as did Gillislee.

It also seemed like Marquise Goodwin did a great job of making himself available for quarterbacks.

There was one play where Taylor got in trouble, scrambled and found Goodwin who had come back to him.

Paul Hamilton does not mention the Manuel to Goodwin TD pass.
