Maybe we can get a big cap on the stadium now as a retractable roof.

It will always be Rich Stadium to me, but that said, its new nickname will be the Cap. Also, I enjoy the mental image of a hat as a dome. tip it to the side to retract the roof and let the sun in.

Hopefully a corporate sponsor on the naming rights puts pressure on the bills to get a playoff appearance. You'd hate to pay all that money and never get a prime time January advertisement. Ultimately, I hope this is a good thing

So now they're going to call New Era Cap Company "Ralph Wilson Stadium" ? Credit to Pegula for being aggressive.

It does bring new meaning to the bills name

Rich Stadium to me at well, but..

Trust me, I have my finger on the pulse. It's new nickname will be New Era CRAP before long if this team doesn't turn it around in zero-point-two seconds. You heard it here first.

...as much as I hate to be a trendsetter in this regard, but I just have the knack.

If you weren't such a feeble investor you'd be looking for it to be called the Feldspar Stadium. I have my eye on it being called Mace Most Cruel & Vile 2016 Stadium and have already saved $18.34 toward the next bid...$18.35, dropped a penny.

$18.34, wasn't a penny it was a bug.

Heh - when I first read this thread title, I was reminded of New Era potatoe chips. Blast from the past...I have a vague idea when they hit the Bflo. market - early '60's perhaps?
They were first sold in 5 cent bags at a time when Schuler's was the big local brand, and Wise was the big national name.

They were delightfully clear, so to speak, and as we know now,the brand name was changed and rose to national heights after being bought by bought up by Lay's:

A hat company buying naming rights will propel them into the playoffs?

Much like Little Caesars will use their logo on top of the new Red Wings arena?

No, thanks.

KeyBank might have triggered the naming rights to the stadium... when KeyBank merged with First Niagara Bank and announced that they would be changing the name of First Niagara Center to KeyBank Center, the Pegula's probably said that if the name of the Arena is changing why not do the same to the stadium.

According to a report from the Associated Press, New Era’s agreement covers the remainder of the lease, and included a right of first refusal after that time, or if the Bills build a new facility. http://bills.buffalonews.com/2016/08/13/bills-reach-stadium-naming-rights-agreement-new-era-cap-company/

also the Jacobs family is on record saying that they want to help build the new stadium http://www.buffalonews.com/business/were-interested-in-playing-a-role-in-downtown-bills-stadium-jacobs-family-says-20150106 so the new stadium could be called Sports Service Stadium/field or Delaware North Stadium/field the Jacobs own Delaware North which is on Delaware Ave in the city and one of their offices are out in Amherst, NY

I prefer meaningful names to corporate ones, but two things:

1. People overrate Ralph. He brought the team here, but then he mismanaged the hell out of it for most of the 50+ years he owned it. After winning 2 AFL championships, it took him over 20 years to adjust to the Super Bowl era and get those good 90's teams together, and he never was able to adjust to the FA/salary cap era. Ralph did one great thing, then proceeded to be mediocre for the next 50 years while people heaped praises on him for simply not undoing the one great thing by moving the team. And got extremely wealthy while doing it.

2. Ralph always cried small market poverty. He would let FA's walk without replacing them, was inactive in attracting FA's from other teams far more often than not, generally went into the season significantly below the salary cap, and consistently was amongst the lowest spenders on coaching. Selling the naming rights certainly wouldn't have put him on par with the big market teams like Dallas, Washington and NE, but it always bothered me that he cried poverty while refusing to exploit such an obvious revenue stream.

How's this for an idea: Ralph Wilson Field at New Era Stadium.

Maybe it's a bit wordy, but it follows the Denver model(Sports Authority Field at Mile High).

How can the Bills sell the naming rights to a stadium that Erie county owns?

I'm sure there is language in the lease covering that.

Announcement at 11am tomorrow, btw, according to the local news.

Although New Era Cap is a respectful enough sponsor, the makers of the following products would have been more suitable and a better fit with the Bills and their fans:

Prozac (fluoxetine)
Celexa (citalopram)
Zoloft (sertraline)
Paxil (paroxetine)
Lexapro (escitalopram)
