CHENEY -- In a perfect world, Walter Jones and Chris McIntosh would be the starting offensive tackles this morning when the Seahawks open practice at their Eastern Washington University training camp.

So much for perfection.

McIntosh, a first-round draft choice in 2000, was released yesterday, while Jones, a three-time Pro Bowl performer, was the lone no-show when 86 players gathered for a mandatory team meeting.

Neither development was a surprise.

McIntosh did not play last season and was limited to three starts in 2001 because of a recurring neck injury. Jones has yet to sign the $5.734 million tender the club made in February when he was named the franchise player for the second year in a row.

"Chris has the desire to play, so it's not like he's taking the money and running," offensive line coach Tom Lovat said. "But the injury is such that he's one play away from the same thing happening again."
