Quentin Griffin was limping off the field after Friday morning's practice, an ice pack attached to his lower right leg, claiming nothing was seriously wrong.

"That's my cool walk," the Denver Broncos running back said.

Turns out, Griffin will get to show off that strut often in the coming weeks.

It was later learned the rookie from Oklahoma suffered a broken fibula, the smaller of the two bones in the lower leg that runs from knee to ankle, when he collided with a teammate on a swing pass.

The leg will be immobilized in a boot the next two weeks. Coach Mike Shanahan says he's hoping Griffin can play the final two preseason games.

"It sets him back, especially it sets him back with the introduction of the system, and being here and attending camp," Shanahan said. "It's really tough on him, obviously. It's tough on us."

Earlier this week, one front-office official was touting Griffin as perhaps the Broncos latest running back steal. But with KaRon Coleman (broken foot) also out, the team will take a harder look at rookies Ahmaad Galloway and Cecil Sapp. Mike Anderson also likely will get more repetitions at tailback, rather than fullback.
