    Five position battles to watch

    1. No. 2 wide receiver

The Jaguars didn't have a reliable complement to Jimmy Smith last season after cutting Keenan McCardell for salary-cap reasons. The leading candidate this year is former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick J.J. Stokes because of his experience in the West Coast offense. But Donald Hayes and Matthew Hatchette also will be in the mix. The Jaguars could take a look at Kevin Lockett, though he appears better suited for the No.3 role.

    2. Kicker

The Jaguars went through four kickers while converting only 70 percent of their field-goal tries last season. Danny Boyd is the incumbent, but not the favorite, after spending less than a month with the Jaguars last season. Boyd will be pressed by former Washington Redskin James Tuthill and rookie free agent Seth Marler, who might have the strongest leg of the three. The Jaguars haven't ruled out a veteran.
