Acting in loco parentis for MitchMurrayDowntown, who I assume is hunkering down because of the Fla. storm, here is the GDT.

I watched DET this preseason. What a pitiful bunch.

Thanks to our poster Mr. Pink, here is the Deadspin site's "Why Your Team Sucks - Detroit Lions."

It is very much NSFW.

I dunno how much of this offense tonight you can blame on Manuel.

This offensive line is absolutely god awful. You could cut all of these guys and sign street free agents and it wouldn't be any worse.

The biggest takeaway this preseason, at least to me, is that we better hope we stay healthy up front or we're gonna end up seeing all 3 QBs before the end of the year taking meaningful snaps.

Lack of depth can be seen up and down the entire roster, except for dline and maybe ILBer. Everywhere else, there isn't ANYBODY behind the starters. The signing of Patrick Lewis at least gives a little bit of hope for C-G.

Very true.

I think this team can survive if they lose a corner for a few games or if they lose a WR for a few games...they're in some serious trouble if they lose an OL for a few games because all of these backups are turnstiles. Doesn't matter if it's pass pro or run blocking thus far this preseason, minus a couple decent runs sprinkled in - like that one by Herron a couple plays ago.

I thought I liked the combo as he came out of college, catching, running, blocking, more flexible and such, but I haven't seen him do much of any of them this preseason. Good play or two but everyone has them.

I was surprised Ryan mentioned him, but I probably dislike Annen, O'Leary and Felton enough by now for a fresh maybe more than that I'm sold on Gronkowski for much of anything.

We do see that time to time - OLs that check in as eligible receivers and snag a pass...sometime for a red zone TD. CIN did it several times with last year's 2nd rounder OT Jake Fisher - now one of CIN's many casualties.

It gave a flashy look to confuse the defensive assignments. He did catch 1 pass for 31 yards. Mostly decoy stuff - IIRC, CIN garnered some nifty run yardage off of those sets in 1st down drives. Very lucky for them...other times they tried it, Dalton was running for his life. The opposition quickly sniffed out the gimmick.

If you really think about it, who will block better, an undersized lineman with mobility or a full sized lineman with mobility ? I always found it hard to believe a lineman can't run or catch better than a pure FB who never does anyway and won't block as well. Plus, you're training a pulling lineman who knows more about blocking anyway by trade.

24 to zip lead. I assume the Lion's DC is calling a prevent D of some sort. Who bothers to cover the TE when you play that?

BUF should be working passes to the wide outs, various patterns, to evaluate them and Jones.

I'm glad the pre-season is mostly meaningless, because this was ugly - blown out 31 to 0 by the Lions of all teams. EJ Manuele looked awful, the Rob Ryan defense seemed to be sleep walking, tackling was horrible and sloppy.

If the pre-season is supposed to be a 'tune up' for the regular season, in this game it looks like the Bills should skip the tune up - they need an engine rebuild.
