Panthers agree to terms with WR Wilkins

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina (Ticker) - Wide receiver Terrence Wilkins, who saw limited action in his only season with the St. Louis Rams, on Saturday agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers.

Wilkins caught just five passes for 31 yards for St. Louis last year, seeing most of his time on special teams. He averaged 9.7 yards on 25 punt returns and 22.9 yards on 47 kickoff returns.

Wilkins, who turns 28 on Tuesday, earned All-Rookie honors in 1999 with the Indianapolis Colts. He had 42 receptions for 565 yards and four touchdowns, then followed with 43 catches for 569 yards and three TDs in 2000.

"Wilkins is a guy who can be a wide receiver and a punt and kickoff returner," Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said. "He gives you more depth at both of those spots. He is a guy who can be explosive. He gives you a playmaker, and we need those types of guys."
