View Full Version : My take on the Jets after watching CIN@NYJ

The Jets' DL is very strong. They rag-dolled CIN's OL in the first half, and sacked Dalton 5 times - 2 or 3 of those were Dalton's fault IMO. Two more sacks in the 2nd half.

In the 2nd half, CIN adjusted by hitting them with a flurry of short sideline passes. Several were thrown to a trailing AJ Green lined up behind two WR's on the LOS. Green was targeted 13 times and caught 12 for 180 yds. He horse-whipped Revis all game long.

It caused NYJ to throttle up their mad DL pressure.

WR LaFell caught the 4 tossed his way while they were preoccupied with Green. As a bonus, LaFell knocked S Calvin Pryor out of the game with a clean, open-field block while Pryor was legging it after a missed assignment on a 54 yard completion.

On the D side, CIN let their DL apply pressure and had their LBs clog up the middle pass zone.

Fitz played fairly well - but his longest strike was 24 yds., and12 of his 19 completions went to two players - WR Quincy Enunwa and RB Matt Forte.

Forte was a load to handle - 22 carries for 96 yds, caught 5 for 59. Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker were held in check.

So...

- NYJ's DL is tops.
- Fitz was Fitz-like. Needed to connect with other receivers.
- Forte brings a lot to the game.
- NYJ's DBs struggled. CIN beat them on the sidelines and hit 'em hard deep.
- Their kicker Folk has an XP and a FG blocked.
- UDFA WR Jalin Marshall had a fine KR game - 3 for 100, including a 65 yarder.
- Jet's coaching staff lost the halftime adjustment battle.

I assume in reviewing the game tapes, the Jets will be trying to counter quick sideline strikes (without setting themselves up for bombs), in order to keep their loaded DL in play.

Jet's DE Sheldon Richardson comes back from his one-game suspension..more fuel to the fire there. In his absence, they played a lot of 4 DL sets and LBs with knuckles down.

Jets are going to bully the offensive line. I'm not a doom and gloom guy but this game could get ugly.

Tyrod is going to have to be decisive in his reads and ue needs to make plays with his feet. Not just as a runner either, he should be making plays like the one to Clay. Not a double spin move but when a play breaks down he needs to make defenses pay by keeping plays alive.

Dunno. Getting happy feet against a good DL that pushes the pocket back can lead to errors. Perhaps some roll-outs by design with short out passes might be in order.

Here's how CIN bled off the NYG DL pressure:

That's my point Cincy is far superior across the board compared to the Bills. Dalton too the punishment and the offense adjusted in the 2nd half.

Your talking a team with 5 straight playoff appearnces vs the team that can't get in this millennium.

Unless Fitz melts down I don't see a win this week unless the Bills catch a ton of breaks.

Sammy on one fit is not likely to replicate what Green did vs Revis and the Jeys secondary.

As a Jets fan that is a very accurate assessment of the Cincy game, good analysis. The Jets defense could not adjust to the simple little bubble screens and such Cincy was running. Also, other Jet fans may disagree but Revis is not longer to be feared at all. If you guys do what you did last year you have a good chance to win. Get the ball to Watkins often (if he plays) and let your QB get outside and run a lot.

We didn't do either of those things last season. What we did was get a few plays out of McCoy/Williams and then capitalize on A LOT of mistakes by Fitz and Bowles.

IMO. this will likely be a defensive battle. Whoever makes more mistakes in the offense will lose a close game. Jets should try to stop the run and contain TT like the ravens did. Make him play QB.

Bills should stop the run and press coverage. Take away the short to mid field passing game and force Fitz to throw deep . Trust Gilmore and Darby to cover their assignments 1 on 1 when Fitz is forced to throw to them.

Bills/Rex will be fired up which means I expect 10000000+ penalties.

Roman better be studying how to move that Oline. Rolls outs, screens, bootlegs and the sort. Just staying put will get Tyrod killed. Specially if Glenn is not playing.

Lets also hope we get bad Fitz. An int or two would be huge for us.

In the last game of the year Watskins was 11 catches for 136 yards, Taylor was 10 rushes for 51 yards, both huge reasons for the Buff win.

Any update on whether Glenn will be playing?

And the game still came down to Buffalo clinging by its fingernails until Fitz melted down.

He's been declared out.

I think the bills should have a healthy dose of delayed handoffs. that way it looks like we are keeping a RB back for blocking, and the line can let the DL sprint right by them, but give the bills an easy 5-10 yards. however, it requires to have a RB who trusts that he can get through the hole.
