View Full Version : Bills Trivia Game

I think we should start a new game. Here's how it goes, if you can answer the question, you get to ask one. If nobody can answer your question after say, 1 day, you have to give a hint every day untill the question gets correctly answered. BTW, try to keep the questions relevently possible to answer and reletivley recent for the youngsters like myself.

I will start

Name the 4 teams the Bills played in the playoffs in the 1992-1993 season

Dman
07-19-2002, 12:06 PM
Houston..in that unforgetable Wild Card game
Pittsburgh for the Division Title
Miami in the AFC Championship game and finally-
Dallas..ugh!!!..Super Bowl

My turn....
Thurman Thomas and Kenny Davis combined for how many total rushing and receiving yards in the Miami AFC game?

that's a dumb question. lets do ones that people can answer without going on google.com. no offense

No question to answer, so I'll ask one. It is an easy one..

Name the only QB to go to the superbowl 5 consecutive times.

The_Philster
07-19-2002, 05:26 PM
QB Gale Gilbert
Went to the Super Bowl 4 times in a row with the Bills...then went the following year with the Bolts. I'm gonna have to look up some challenging ones cause no one's come up with any so far. :D

The_Philster
07-19-2002, 05:29 PM
This Bills Pro Bowler joined the team the same day as Jim Kelly....who was he?

JefftheBillsfan
07-19-2002, 06:41 PM
kent hull?

The_Philster
07-19-2002, 06:57 PM
Yep....He even rode to training camp in the same entourage that took Kelly...but in a truck near the front of the procession.

The_Philster
07-19-2002, 07:03 PM
Which Bills TE was invited to the Atlanta Hawks' training camp for tryout?

A Pete Metzelaars
B Ernie Warlick
C Butch Rolle
D Jay Riemersma
E Keith McKellar
F Dave Moore

How many players are currently on the Bills Wall of Fame?

JefftheBillsfan
07-19-2002, 07:17 PM
oh, sorry Philster I didn't see you already had a question

The_Philster
07-19-2002, 07:25 PM
No prob, jeff. I'll answer yours...13 players

1 trainer
1 coach
1 vice-president
1 owner
and the 12th man!!

uhh, according to BB.com there are 18.

The_Philster
07-19-2002, 08:15 PM
Yeah....but take a look http://www.buffalobills.com/history/index.cfm?cont_id=62965 . Those 18 aren't all players and you DID say players. :D

I stand corrected, you are right Philster.

"In the 1991 AFC Championship game, who deflected John Elway's pass that Carlton Bailey intercepted and returned for the only Bills TD in a 10-7 win."

I remember it was off to the left side of the D, so I'm gonna guess Hanson? Either that or the LDT at that time.

The_Philster
07-20-2002, 05:07 AM
Nope wys, but I will say this person was playing on the D-Line that day...just to make it a bit simpler.

JefftheBillsfan
07-20-2002, 08:56 AM
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

I vaguely remember Bruuuuuuuuce

JefftheBillsfan
07-20-2002, 09:08 AM
no it was a LB I remember...

Bailey?

The_Philster
07-20-2002, 10:38 AM
Damn...I look up all these questions in Relentless, the media guides, or the Bills trivia books put out by Scott Piloniak. I didn't even have to look at the answer to know this one. It's been 15 hours so far. If no one posts the correct answer by about 12:30, I'll post it. 24 hours or more is a little long to work on one question, I think.

The_Philster
07-21-2002, 07:55 AM
Ok, rather then let this thread die, here's the next question.

How many players have worn the #2 for the Bills in a regular season game?

JefftheBillsfan
07-21-2002, 11:09 AM
1, Steve Christie, I at least can't think of anyone else...

The_Philster
07-21-2002, 11:49 PM
You got it, Jeff
Someone else has to pick some questions now....I may not be online much this week. The computer I'm on now could completely die any time so I may be offline until I get my new Gateway.....ordering it in the morning.

Why didn't the Bills issue #31 until they drafted JD Williams?

JefftheBillsfan

Honestly, I don't even know who JD Williams is...

It was considered to be jinxed. I remember some story about it being a number on a player that was featured on a poster. But I don’t remember the exact reason that they thought it was jinxed

Patrick76777
07-22-2002, 11:26 AM
So how have you been doing EE.......?

Earthquake Enyart
07-22-2002, 11:36 AM
Good. The old time Bills trivia always brings me out. I think I went to 3 games in the Rockpile when I was a kid.

Who was the first NFL team the Bills played at home for real (in a regular season game that counted) after the merger?

Dozerdog
07-22-2002, 11:41 AM
The Los Angeles Rams, and they got smoked.....

but then again they got smoked all year

Dozerdog
07-22-2002, 11:44 AM
What was the first old NFL team they actually BEAT?

Hint: It was year 3 of the merger

JefftheBillsfan
07-22-2002, 04:22 PM
good questions...

JefftheBillsfan
07-22-2002, 07:58 PM
I think another hint is in order

Lori
07-22-2002, 09:17 PM
I think the team you're looking for is the 49ers, in September 1972.
As for the #31, I recall reading it wasn't issued because that was the number worn by the player depicted in the original team logo. It definitely started with a 3, anyhow; check it out on this pennant:
http://members.tripod.com/~pgrose/60s/AFL_1_Buffalo_1_Player_Logo.JPG

And see how easy this one is: name the opponent in Jim Kelly's first-ever game at Rich Stadium.

Ebenezer
07-22-2002, 09:22 PM
that link doesn't work but that is the closest answer so far. 31 was chosen in the first promotional ad for the Bills and was never issued after that.

Lori
07-22-2002, 09:42 PM
You're right, dadgummit - didn't notice the link got shorted. Oops.
Here's the homepage that came from, if youse guys haven't seen it before. A nice job, IMO.

Ebenezer
07-22-2002, 10:02 PM
wow...there is a pennant on there that I have that I thought was an old AFL pennant...It actually goes back to the AAFC!!

Lori
07-22-2002, 10:23 PM
Congrats - those AAFC pennants can be worth big $$$$. (Being a true Bills fan, though, you'll never sell it.)

I have one of the scroll versions, the one with George Ratterman at the top of the list of names. Love that old logo!

ok...let's get this going again

What's the Bills' overall playoff record at home? This counts War Memorial Stadium and Rick/Ralph Wilson Stadium

JefftheBillsfan
07-29-2002, 10:11 AM
Ok, I have no clue, here is an easy one...

Who was the starting QB when the Bills started to swing their 0-3 start in 1998?

JefftheBillsfan
07-29-2002, 10:12 AM
so who got the first win, and who were they playing?

The_Philster
07-29-2002, 03:33 PM
Damn, jeff...I had to look up mine because I forgot...it was 10-3

On yours, it was Rob Johnson against the 49ers

Here's an easy one....the Bills' FIRST draft pick.

Lori
07-30-2002, 09:14 AM
Bills' first draft pick? That is an easy one - Richie Lucas, the All-American QB from Glassport, PA and -

WE ARE........... PENN STATE !!!

As for the playoff record, I'm not gonna cheat by looking it up. I do know the Jax game remains the only playoff loss in Rich Stadium history, so the record there must be something like 9-1 or 10-1.....

JefftheBillsfan
07-30-2002, 09:23 AM
I will guess 11-1 just because I feel like guessing

The_Philster
07-30-2002, 03:21 PM
ummmm I already posted the answer to the playoff question. Lori, it included War Memorial Stadium anyway...not just Rich/Ralph Wilson Stadium. Anyway, since you got the draft pick question right....your turn :D

Lori
07-31-2002, 03:59 PM
...searching.....
I guess you did. Guess I better actually start reading some of these?
:anvil:

Anyhoo, let's see how quickly someone figures this one out. Who was the opponent in Jim Kelly's first appearance at Rich Stadium?

The_Philster
07-31-2002, 04:03 PM
The Jets

Who was the first player acquired during Marv Levy's tenure as Bills head coach?

....or maybe not.....

HopsGuy
07-31-2002, 04:44 PM
In the last game of the strike shortened '87 season, Cornelius Bennett was pointed at Randall Cunningham and told, "Go get him." Biscuit upon sacking RC for the 2nd time said, "If you don't get someone to block, I'm going to kill you."

How many sacks did Bennett record that day?

Bonus: How many fumbles did he force?

(I'm doing this from memory, BTW)

HopsGuy
07-31-2002, 06:54 PM
I remember Jimbo being at the Bills pre-season game at Houston watching from the owners box with Bill Polian and Mr. Wilson. And I seem to recall his first preseason game was at Notre Dame Stadium vs. the Bears. Was there another pre-season game against in '86 that I can't remember?

I bow to your knowledge.

BTW, I played Barlett two weeks ago. My game is horrible, but the course was in great shape. How is Indian Echo holding up this summer?

Lori
07-31-2002, 08:13 PM
...I wouldn't know about the Echo this year, because I haven't made it past the parking lot. The clubs are in the trunk, but that's as far as my golf game has gotten this summer.....

As for the Kelly question, did I ever say that it was his first appearance with the Bills, or just his first appearance at Rich Stadium? Therein lies your clue.

The_Philster
07-31-2002, 08:50 PM

08-01-2002, 03:56 AM
RB Thurman Thomas

Lori
08-01-2002, 07:26 AM
There ya go, Phil.
October 27, 1979. Anyone who wants to find out more about that Syracuse-Miami game can look either in Relentless or in JK's autobiography, Armed and Dangerous.

BTW Hops, the Biscuit answer should be 4 sacks/3 FF/16 tackles, correct? (My guess would've been off by one fumble.) Too bad the Bills still lost that game.....

First SB TD was scored by a RB, but it wasn't Thurman......

The_Philster
08-01-2002, 07:35 AM
Armed and Dangerous is where I found it, Lori.

Lori
08-01-2002, 07:51 AM
I got it from Relentless; I had completely forgotten A+D had a story on that game until somebody on the Wall mentioned it. (I "got" quite a few of them with that question.)

Want some really useless trivia? Turn to the pictures between pgs. 188-189, then find the one where JK is "showing them the ropes at my football camp". The kid on the right, wearing the (Port Allegany) Gators shorts, is Jim Stayer. He went on to sign a FA contract with the Patriots in 1995; with Bledsoe and Zolak already there, though, he didn't stick... :(

JefftheBillsfan

I was about to venture the same guess as Lori...

HopsGuy
08-01-2002, 03:36 PM
I'm gonna bow to Lori on this one. I was absolutley sure that Biscuit had 4 sacks and 4 FFs in the Iggles game. But if she says 3 FFs, then I'm going to believe her. Did you look that up in Relentless?

I'll have to ask ole CB next time I see him at the Elbo Room. I wonder if her remembers?

Lori
08-01-2002, 11:33 PM
Relentless and the '88 media guide both have 4 sacks/3 FF. I knew the sack number (still tied for the team record with two of Bruuuce's games), but would've guessed 2 FF.

I still wanna know the answer to that last question, Earthquake. Something that oddball, it sounds right up Freddie's alley....

Earthquake Enyart
08-02-2002, 06:33 AM
You are a God, Lori. Those 2 used to bet each other that the other was uglier.

BTW, with the dish, and the Fox sports package, I see that Freddie is on the New England Sports Report. Funny as usual.

Lori
08-02-2002, 09:32 AM
Ummmm, does that mean I'm up?

Since this weekend's focus is obviously on Jim Kelly, and since I'll be thoroughly :insane: by the time we get back, I'll lob a few Kelly-related softballs. (Anything harder, and my brain might be too fried to remember the answers....)

1. What number did JK wear during his first season with the Hurricanes? (It wasn't #12.)

2. The week after the Miami-Cuse game at Rich Stadium, Kelly got his first college start. Where was that game played?

3. Kelly played his USFL ball for the Houston Gamblers, but what team originally drafted him in that league?

4. When #12 threw for an incredible 574 yards in the Gamblers' 1985 season opener, who was the opposing team?

5. And who was that team's QB?

BONUS QUESTION: If you can name East Brady HS's mascot and school colors, and if you stop by the TBD tailgate at Hammer's Lot on Opening Day, I'll buy you a beer.

2. Va. Tech (guess)

4 and 5 are correct, Patrick. As for the Generals, Kelly was never involved with them until Houston and NJ merged after the 1985 season.

Hints: #1 - One of the Bills QBs in the post-Kelly era also wore this number.

#2 - Blacksburg, VA isn't far enough north.

#3 - John Butler's only pro coaching job came with this team.

Lori
08-02-2002, 10:36 AM
Eb, Penn State is correct, and you're close on the colors. No mascot guess, though?

(That one's nasty. I know East Brady H.S. stuff only because we played them in the District 9 championship game a few years ago, and their colors were the same as ours...)
