All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
Why in the hell would they trade their best LB for a 3rd rounder?
Probably because they're the best team in the NFL and they can afford to do it. They have a history of not letting any of their top talent go without getting something in return. They probably weren't making any headway with him in terms of a long term deal so they just said 'whatever, let's get something for him.'
It's not like he's the reason that team is as good as they are. They win with a top passing offense and a good-enough defense. It's not like they're risking a playoff birth without him. Plus, during the playoffs, their defense doesn't seem to be the problem, it's their offense that struggles when they lose. Tom Brady is 17-1 in the playoffs when they score more than 21 points. That's usually a cake walk for that offense.
Because he was asking for Von Miller type money, the Pats would have never paid it.
So move him off for something instead of losing him for nothing.
The Patriots are unquestionably the best team in the AFC right now and the odds on Super Bowl favorite. If Collins walked in free agency to get paid, they'd get a compensatory 3rd rounder for him in 2018. So they dealt the best linebacker off a Super Bowl caliber team to get to effectively move up 32 spots in the 3rd and get it one year earlier. It's taking the long view to an absurd extreme, and if in January we are watching LeVeon Bell or Latavius Murray run over their defense it is going to look completely idiotic.

Collins played very sparingly Sunday and it didn't look like it made any difference.
Now we know why he didn't play much since there was a deal in the works and they didn't want him to get hurt.

It didn't make any difference because we are rolling out an offense with an injured #1 wideout and #1 halfback with Tyrod Taylor as the triggerman. That might make a huge difference when they are facing a full strength team with a legit offense.
Why would Cleveland at 0-8 give up a 3rd rounder for a guy in his contract year? None of this makes sense.
They get 9 weeks of exclusive negotiations.
