GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Sylvester Croom thought for a while that he'd be preparing to coach the Alabama Crimson Tide this season and not the Green Bay Packers' running backs.
Croom interviewed at his alma mater in the offseason after Alabama dumped Mike Price, but the Tide went with Mike Shula instead, leaving the Southeastern Conference as the one major conference never to have a black football coach.
Croom didn't want to discuss the race issue at the time, but he's willing to now.
"It's time for them to quit making excuses and go ahead and take care of business," he said.
