It's nice of him. But it's surprising that that effort marks him as the Bill offered up for the Walter Payton award.

In CIN, Payton nominee Dalton's foundation has raised over $2M. Carlos Dunlap's camp foundation has existed for years. Last week, 3 players doled out 200+ bikes. Coach-for-Life Marvin's Community Foundation has raised over 11 million. CIN players are often in the local news, be it Habitat for Humanity work or cleaning up a playground or visiting ill children.

Say what we will about owner Brown, but he is a very decent man, which is reflected in the players.

It's very nice stuff to read, but I sometimes wonder if the charitable work isn't written into their contracts as a league mandate.

Does anybody know?

I don't know but I do know the players have more opportunity than most people because they don't work regular hours. During the season I'm sure it's tough, but I'd do a lot more charitable work if my job had an off-season.

Some players go out and get in trouble in the off-season, other do things for other under-privileged folks.
