I did not like Marrone, but I do think he is better than Rex. Guess he did make the right call.

I was hoping they'd hire our RB coach. They seem like the only team dumb enough to do it.

Yeah, I want someone to hire Lynn ASAP.

As for Marrone, he won. Got paid 4 mil to bail and has a HC job in Jacksonville instead of ice fortress Buffalo.

I thought he would have been a good HC if it weren't for his ego and his marriage to Hackett. He's a coach who has a GM outlook on the team.

We shall see in time. He might end up hiring Pettine unless Schwartz asked to join him.

It's Marrone AND Coughlin.

Jags have named Coughlin VP of Football Ops, given GM Dave Caldwell a 2 year extension as well.

So one job and two potential coaches off the board.

Marrone already has a much better front office to work with then he did in Buffalo. Guarantee, that front office won't spend two 1st for a WR.

Well yeah...they already have Robinson, Hurns, and Lee.

Going to be interesting to see how the Coughlin VP thingie turns out considering how many around here wanted him in Buffalo in the same role.

If the Jags front office is so much better than the Bills why do they lose 10+ games and pick in the top 5 every single year?

Oh it's going to be real interesting. The no nonsense Coughlin who still wanted to coach, overseeing the oily Marrone as HC. Coughlin is going to be all over him, looking over his shoulder, questioning him. Coughlin has some chops too, so Marrone won't be able to handily get around him within the organization.

Dougie better stock up on rolaids.

Per Rapport, Coughlin has final say over everything in Jacksonville. He's essentially the boss of both Marrone and Caldwell.

The Jags have a handful of good young players. With Marrone, Caldwell, and Coughlin things may be on the upswing there.

If they can figure out Bortles and get some additional OL help they could in the wildcard hunt next year.

With Hackett as OC ? Oh I don't know. Can be sure they'll punt a lot though.

I hope Jacksonville turns things around and becomes a competitive team. This would only shine a bright spotlight on the ineptitude of our front office.

Honestly, picking Marrone here and not even interviewing Arians shines pretty bright.

IDK. Marrone & Hackett feel they have something to prove. That's some powerful motivation. I agree with DB, if they figure out Bortles, they can get that ship turned around.

How do they "figure out" Bortles? What does that even mean? He's either good enough or he's not!

Well he's still quite young as a QB. He got thrown right in to the fire, rather than getting to sit and watch much. He threw a lot of INTs this season. If they can cut that number down, he would have looked a lot better on the stat sheet.

As mentioned, he would benefit from RB and O-line upgrades too.

Hackett was the QB coach who presided over Bortles regression in mechanics where Bortles said he didn't know what was wrong or how to fix it though. And then they never did.

Charlie Casserly, a handsome, confident and well dressed man, has this to say :

"It can work, it worked in Miami when Bill Parcells was the football czar there. Coughlin is a tremendous resource. He's a great coach and a great mind. What he's going to have to do is fight the itch to be a micromanager, which can be a problem. Vince Lombardi years ago couldn't do it when he was in that role as a Packer. But, he's got a good football coach. He's got a good general manager. And there's the common ground of Parcells between Marrone and Coughlin, so they've got some history they can relate to.

"It can work if everyone understands their roles."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000772408/article/casserly-coughlin-has-to-fight-urge-to-micromanage

I'm forced to disagree with the dapper Casserly, also a splendidly coiffed man, on the premise of Coughlin having a "good football coach", but I'm certain he'd only smile his gentle wry smile at that, and nod, perhaps reflecting that he was being diplomatic about Marrone on Coughlin's behalf while being fairly certain if the Jags had hired him as a consultant, Marrone would be properly on his way to Toledo for an assistant special teams coach opening.

T as long as Mace doesn't come at me in threatening manner, as he is wont to do.

That was mean. I like to think I'm known as a level headed, diplomatic man of peace and harmony who goes out of his way to avoid conflict, sort of like a latter day Mahatma Gandhi. In fact sometimes I force pedestrians to call me Mahatma so I can stay in the vibe.

Reports emerging that Coughlin has already blocked Marrone from trying to hire both ST Coordinator Danny Crossman and DB Coach Donnie Henderson.

Coughlin and Henderson have history, not sure what the issue is with Crossman.

Maybe he watched the Bills/Jets game and thinks any player who doesn't know a kickoff is a free kick is being coached by an incompetent boob.
