McDermott was my top choice in terms of the candidates we interviewed so I'm thrilled. Also adding McCoy is potentially phenomenal.

As for DC it could be anybody. Ray Horton just became a Free Agent.

Probably best case scenario

Not to throw cold water on this but Wawrow is saying that the Bills are closer but not close to a done deal with McDermott and Mike Silver says a final decision has not yet been made.

Dandy. Wawwrow seems up Pegula's butt and insider since Pegula gave him that interview.

His tweets are oddly worded. Seems to try and save himself on missing the scoop by constantly heading his tweets and talking about no second interview.

He's not so confident and doesn't want to upset his new Pegula sources, which probably tell him vague things on purpose to test him.

I mentioned it in the other thread that the DC is a tough one. I mentioned Bill Shuey who worked with McDermott in Philly and currently a DC at the college level.

I think he's trying to sell the power struggle angle, GM vs Owner, but doesn't have any proof.

The 42-year-old drew rave reviews during the 2015 season, when the Panthers finished sixth in scoring defense, holding opponents to 19.3 points per game.

i do not think a coordinator with a 6-10 record this year is the answer. yes, he had good seasons in the past years..took Carolina to a superbowl...but, lets go with someone who currently is in the playoffs. Anyone from Pittsburgh would be good. They always have a solid team year after year

2015 Carolina Defense: #6 in points per game, #6 in total yards

2016 Carolina Defense: #22 in ppg, #21 in total yards (Buffalo was #16)

I don't follow the Panthers that close. I know they had a down year on both sides of the ball. Anyone know what happened there? Let down after 2015 Super Bowl?

Everybody has let down years. I don't think that takes you out of consideration for a head coaching position.

Lost both starting CB's in the offseason, Charles Johnson started to show his age, and they lost Kuechly for six games.

In the end they still had a Top 10 D v. the run allowing 113.4 ypg. They were the #10 team by DVOA rankings from Football Outsider, 11th v. the pass, and 9th v. the run.

Also one guy who hasn't been brought up as a potential DC but who is a Jim Johnson student as well is Mike Singletary. He's a defensive assistant in LA right now, but he could get a look.

Well his defense is either 22nd or by your stats 10th....which is it?

I'm going with 22nd which means not as good as Ryan?

You can't compare ranking in total yards allowed per game to DVOA. They are measuring different things.

McCoy is linked to Vance Joself, potentially going back to Denver as OC -

Also, there is strong indication that former Penn State DC John Butler, now Texan B coach, is likely to be McDermott's DC.

I don't know if he'd be #1, there are other options out there at much cheaper cost.

McDemott-McCoy .

I have to remember how I was excited with Ryan-Roman to keep myself in check. Thought that we would have at least a great D and very good running O. 1 of 2 and here we are again.

I meant within the Bills FAs.

Personally I would go after Morris Claiborne who could be just as good and would be cheaper.

Supposedly Jim Monos pushed for McDemott. Monos and McDermott both started their NFL careers in Phily around the same time.

Whaley reportedly asked Steelers permissions to talk to DC Keith Butler; Butler said no until the Steelers are out.

Monos is added to the coaching search committee this year, and his impact is felt immediately, I guess.

McDermott loses a lot of appeal if he doesn't have McCoy with him.

Lynn is my top choice either way, but he becomes an even better candidate considering he has Gus Bradley.

Lynn is quickly running out of options with reports out of LA saying that their favorite is McVay.

It's San Francisco or San Diego at this point. He interviewed with both but there has no been no word of a follow-up or who leads for those jobs.

Buffalogic
01-11-2017, 01:02 PM
Nobody wants Lynn. He will be lucky to get an OC job anywhere. Extremely young coaches don't succeed either, so McVay is a fail waiting to happen.

If we land McCoy as OC with McDermott as HC, we hit a grand slam.

Rivers won't leave move from his home in California, I don't think he's going to want to uproot his family. I think his contract even has a no trade clause.

The chances of the San Diego Chargers trading Philip Rivers remain a long shot, but it would be best for the franchise if they decided to restart and find load up on draft picks. Yes, Rivers is the greatest quarterback in franchise history, but San Diego has one playoff win in the past seven years and they’ve missed it all but one year since 2010.

There’s a talented young secondary coming together, but Rivers (35), Antonio Gates (36), Danny Woodhead (31), and Keenan Allen (season-ending injury for second-straight year) aren’t going to help the Chargers compete with the three AFC West powers in the long run.

If San Diego was smart, they would decide to trade Rivers for a plethora of picks. Rivers has done a lot for the franchise, but they haven’t gone anywhere with him. There’s simply no reason to keep him, and the talented Buffalo Bills are a quarterback away from contention. Rivers for multiple picks would be a major blockbuster that would benefit both sides in the long-term.

I love this.

Also, Rivers' team is moving. It's a two hour drive from San Diego to LA. I don't know if he'd uproot his family for that or not, but it might just be that the timing is perfect.

Now it has been confirmed that Whaley is "in control" of the 53 man roster (http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18468825/general-manager-doug-whaley-buffalo-bills-retain-control-53-man-roster). That is very bad news. As long as Whaley is GM and Brandon is pres....the Bills will continue to disappoint.

I, and many other people, suggested that Pegula should have cleaned house...totally....when he bought the team. That course of actions looks even better with hindsight.

Us Bills fans are going to pay for Pegula's uncertainty as a new owner with ****ty results.

I really liked McDermott until Frazier, now Babich. I smell Tampa-2 stink, and it completely disheartened me.
