    then there's this... Leslie Frazier

Former Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier is a candidate to be the defensive coordinator under new Bills head coach Sean McDermott, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday.
    I came.
    I saw.
    I conquered.

      Oh the pain the pain...

In a world where more and more coordinators are moving to hybrid schemes like the one employed by Mike Zimmer, Frazier’s loyalty to the old Tampa-2 makes him appear increasingly prehistoric.

You can't teach a move to hybrid schemes.

Oh...the agony ....we just hired a disciple of a defense that went obsolete way before Ryan's obsolete defense.

I'm not surprised, McDermott's defense was always a Tampa-2 style defense (not a pure t-2, but it used the same basic ideas).
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

                  MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

Tampa-2 (the base) uses small lb's to swarm to the ball as philosophy with DB's providing run support if you remember Jauron's, McDermott's defense was not like that at all. It used cover-2 (coverage package) formations, but all teams do. McDermott actually varied his base scheme to available players.

And that's what he'll do in Buffalo.

Jauron ? Did you even vaguely notice no teams use Tampa-2 anymore ? Like I said, or maybe you weren't paying attention, McDermott wasn't hired as DC, he hired a Tampa-2 guy to do this, yes ? You seem to get confused awful easy in your "points".

Yes I've noticed no teams use the Tampa-2 anymore. Neither will the Bills. I mean, can you point to anyone or anywhere (besides you) talking about the Bills playing a Tampa-2 now? Don't worry, I'll wait.

                              This

My guess is McDermott hired someone he worked with and respects on and off the field to run his Carolina D. Easy and I guess lazy to connect the dots with Frazier and the Tampa 2.

Frazier played in the 46 D under Buddy Ryan. He then coached in a different D under Jim Johnson in Philly, while McDermott was there. That was the 4-3 set with the wide 9 look. Ring a bell, Schwartz lovers ? Frazier then learned the Tampa 2 and that ran it's course.

McDermott isn't some Offense oriented coach who is clueless about defense and looking for some DC to run their scheme and pray for the best. The Tampa 2 isn't all Frazier knows. History shows he knows the 4-3 Wide 9 and plenty more. McDermott is the HC and has a D he runs.

Let's give this a chance before playing taps in mid-January. Insane.
