1) Brad Childress, based on the numbers in almost every single category listed, has shown to be the superior candidate. The trouble there, however, is that he hasn't had been the full-on offensive coordinator of a team since 2012 in Cleveland. Much of Childress' success can be considered outdated based on how the game has evolved.

2) Greg Olson has had little success recently, except in 2015 when the Jacksonville Jaguars set his career record (3rd) for the highest ranking in passing touchdowns for one season. Other than that, Olson's offenses have been below average but has continued to get opportunities to lead an offense. He has had some success developing quarterbacks -- as had Childress -- which is part of the explanation.

Sadly I've come to be unhappy with both after being an early Childress guy. Would be good to see a young wild card shoulder in here.

How is Russ going to sell either candidates to the fans? Frazier isnt exciting anyone on rhe defensive side of the ball.

Maybe the selling point is that the Ryan brothers are gone?

Seems like there both downgrades from the guy we all pretty much wanted when we heard McDermott was our guy which was McCoy. They can do whatever they want nothing changes without a QB on that side of the ball.

Again, I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone other than one of these two guys.

Well I'd love that but who? I love how McDermott's appeal was bringing McCoy and then he didn't! Lol. You can almost count on the owners getting screwed over.

Maybe we should bring Rob Ryan back as the OC since he's an expert at getting the most out of the opponents offense.

It's not like Childress has been cut off from the ability to learn anything new just cause he hasn't been an OC since 2012. He's been on coaching staffs ever since and may very well have updated his approach.

That said, this is becoming a seriously underwhelming hiring. I'm not really that worried about Leslie Frazier, as I think that if McDermott wants an aggressive defense he's perfectly capable of making sure that happens. But you'd like to see a first time head coach with a defensive background paired with an exciting mind on the offensive side of the ball.

Well I'd love that but who?

Well one guy might be the Houston Texan OC that just got canned. He was clearly O'Brien's fall guy. And everyone knows the problem in Houston is the overpaid, non-producing QB (sound familiar?). So I don't know that the fired OC was necessarily the problem there. Seems more the personnel is lacking in some spots.

And is he better than Childress? IDK.

I'm left feeling less inspired about having McDermott if he is going to be flanked by Frazier & Childress.

Olsen is interviewing Thursday where did you hear about Knapp?

Be happy Childress is out. He was terrible in Cleveland. Of course when you had Brandon Weeden at QB and a Trent Richardson at RB that might have more to do with why your offense was terrible than the OC.

I'm not a fan of Olsen either.

well we're going old school on the D, why not bring in someone to run the Veer/option? We go on 4th down all day and Tie Rod only has to throw 8 times a game. We might not win many games but the good news is they'd be over a lot quicker.

As much as I'd prefer our first time, defensive minded HC brought an experienced OC, I kind of want the OC to also be good. If Olsen is the best available with experience, I'll take a less known commodity with upside.

They should talk to both Knapp & Dennison.

Former Texans coach George Godsey could be Jets' best OC option (http://jetswire.usatoday.com/2017/01/17/former-texans-coach-george-godsey-could-be-jets-best-oc-option/)

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, it was Godsey that pushed O’Brien to recruit Hackenberg to come to Penn State in 2012. O’Brien and Hackenberg turned out to be a terrific marriage as the Jets second-round pick enjoyed a tremendous freshman season under O’Brien. After Hackenberg’s freshman year, O’Brien left to be the head coach of the Texans and the young quarterback hasn’t been the same since.

Bills aren't the only team looking for an OC.

Currently, the bills, jets, rams, chargers, 9ers all need OC's. Lots of demand, not a whole lot of supply.

Texans.

Apparently, the end result of the evaluation process was that O’Brien will return. He’ll return with a new offensive coordinator.

To make a quality hire, O’Brien will have to convince the person to whom he offers the job that it will be an assignment that lasts more than one season. Given that every joke has a kernel of truth, that may not be easy to do.

Given that the Texans are tied to Brock Osweiler for another season, it may be even more difficult to do.

Knapp is interesting especially with his work with Vick and Atlanta as connecting dots Knapp could maximize Tyrod's talents. Of course I wonder if his zone blocking preference might set back the Oline.
