Matt Bove at WKBW notes that this is more of a depth deal for the Amerks, since at least 2 of Rochester's D-men have been called up by the Sabres in recent weeks.

As you said, none of the trash could get moved. He held this post-3pm press conference yesterday where he kept saying he has a plan. Every Sabres fan knows which players stay and which need to go. Yo really wanted him to dump Kane or Reinhart? I certainly didn't. Not for the returns you see that were gotten by any other team. Nobody wanted Kulikov or Franson.

Buffalo has been killing it at selling, but this year they couldn’t get anything for Dmitri Kulikov or Cody Franson. Before you post an angry comment, note that even Tim Murray seemed disappointed.

There wasn't much out there, especially with the expansion draft. Detroit got hosed for vanek. Anything is better than nothing, but then we'd all complain that he got hosed like Holland and demand his head when the market simply wasn't there for what the sabres need
