University of Washington WR Ross breaks Chris Johnson's 4.24

Official results are still to come, but the Washington wide receiver posted an unofficial 40-time of 4.22 seconds at Saturday's NFL Scouting Combine workouts.

If confirmed, Ross' blazing run would break Chris Johnson's long-standing event record of 4.24.

NFL Network reported shortly after his run that he was dealing with cramping and would not take part in a second attempt. The injury could also keep him out of on-field, but it's safe to say scouts in attendance have already seen more than enough to be impressed.

John Ross made history at the NFL scouting combine as the event's fastest man.The Washington wide receiver ran a 4.22-second 40-yard dash Saturday, breaking Arizona Cardinals running back Chris Johnson's previous record of 4.24 seconds.

He should have worn Adidas shoes. They would have given him an island.

Being able run fast doesn't mean **** of you can't play football.

I want a football player, not a track star.

We already have Goodwin, who can run fast and jump far...

The only question should be is if the guy can play football in real games. These drills should be an afterthought, ask me.

Just saying...not talking about this guy in particular.

The thing is, he was already rated as the 2nd or 3rd best WR, depending on who you follow. Probably an early 2nd rounder who could now sneak into the 1st.

2016 - 81 catches 1150 yards and 17 TD's on a final 4 team. Legit star. Knack for the big play.

4.22 means you can eat up cushion on the CB and make opposing D's dizzy.

It also means he probably shot up Whaley's draft board so Buffalo will take him, leaving Wiiliams and Davis on the board for somebody else.

Williams will never be left off the board...nor will Brown. Any of them...

I actually momentarily forgot the Williams factor. I hate when I do that.

When Michael Irvin brought that up to him, he never blinked an eye and responded:
