View Full Version : When will Chad Kelly be drafted?

Or won't he?

Part 2--who will draft him, or sign him as an UDFA?

The poster with the winning combination gets a (fake) ticket to a St Joseph's football game, (fake) dinner for two at the Encore Bar on Pearl Street, a (fake) Clemson Tigers ball cap, and maybe some more (fake) swag.

I think King may have had it right that he may go in the 6th. Depends on the status of those injuries. I'm going say 5th round. Chicago, NY Giants or Buffalo may draft him. Do I have to pick just one?

Yes, one team choice only, and don't forget to vote.

I'm going with the 4th round by New England.

Bills in the 4th. That's what I'm guessing and hoping for. If he doesn't work out I don't care! How many 4th round picks do!

Forgot we don't have a 4th. Guess they will have to trade for the pick.

I think they pick one up in a trade down.

6th... Bills

Ok. Since all of you are picking the Bills (which would be good), I will take the Giants in the 5th. They let Nassib walk.

Because he has pro-style talent he'll go higher than everyone thinks - probably early third round.

Hey RugRat, open the poll so we can see who voted for what!

DraftBoy

My eyes say he's got as much talent of anybody but needs plenty of molding (2nd Round).

My head says he's a complete knucklehead who will likely scare more than a few teams off from even considering him (5th-7th round)

My gut says that some team will ignore his antics and look at his raw talent and think they can fix his head and take him in 3rd round.

So 3rd round it is!

If Chad Kelly won't be drafted until the later rounds, I fail to see the obsession about him...

No, wait...I do.

This ain't Jim Kelly, people. CHAD is probably better off going to a different city, as far as his career goes...and also his piece of mind. Lots more pressure for him to come to Buffalo. I'd still pick him up, though, if the price is right.

Late Saturday pick by a team not named Buffalo. I'm guessing 6th round.

Bills will sign some post draft cut vet to go with TT and Jones. Then draft a QB high next year when there's some actual talent at the position.

4th round / Patriots

Going for a wild prediction here

I voted 5th in the poll though.

1st round #10

Kiper rolls on the floor laughing, Whaley is fired and the Bills finally move forward

The only way that happens is that Whaley is too busy servicing the Black Widow to remember to be there for the Draft and Jimbo shows up drunk as his replacement to make that pick.

I think a team with a lot of picks will draft him earlier than the 5th, someone like Cleveland.

Based on his recent wrist surgery I would say 6th or 7th round at best.

Buffalo will be a tough situation for him. The fans will have unreasonable expectations for him, and the hysteria will feed into him already super inflated ego and he'll Cade McNown himself out of the league.

I hope he does well elsewhere, Chicago would be my favorite choice.

GOD I hope someone drafts him in front of the Patriots. That's exactly the move they'd make. Take Kelly and trade Garapollo to Cleveland for a 1st and 4th then Chad would continue to dominate the division for another 20 years.

The Bills idiot GM keeps falling in love with dumb Quarterbacks who lack the necessary, unlearnable tools to excel in the NFL. He doesn't seem to grasp the extreme differences between the SEC/ACC and the NFL.

If you're going to take a chance on a kid, you take a chance on a kid with unteachable gifts. Injuries can heal. Wild kids can grow up. But you can't teach elite accuracy.

I wouldn't label Chad Kelly as smart.

And as for being book-wise I bet he has a lower wonderlic score than Manuel or Jones. That said he has more football instincts than EJ and better accuracy than Jones.

YardRat

Jim Kelly and Dan Marino barely even registered on the positive side of the scale on their wonderlics, I'll take football smarts and accuracy over book smarts every time.

Considering he had his combine invite revoked he probably never took the Wonderlic.

I had a thought. We know that Chad has been dealing with some injury issues in addition to his off field baggage. Suppose the Bills decided that Chad has grown up enough not to be an unacceptable character risk to draft late, and Chad is still there in the 6th round. Could the Bills take him with the expectation that they can nurse the injury issue long enough to justify putting him on PUP for the whole year? That would save a roster spot for Cardale Jones and/or Yates as a backup for Tyrod, and not risk losing Chad through waivers to get him on the PS (where he could be signed away from the Bills anyway)? Buffalo is not going to keep 4 QBs on the active roster, but they could keep 3 if Cardale is not ready to be Tyrod's primary backup but they still think he's going to develop. The NFL is all about hedging bets as much as possible.
