“I’m a big believer in leadership, and player-driven leadership, the players having a part of this,” said McDermott. “The ownership part of this is big, and empowering those guys – and that leadership council will help me with that.”

McDermott intends to put together a select group of players from the roster who embody his philosophy of what it takes to become a winning team. While experience certainly counts it won’t be the only qualification he’ll consider.
“I think you look for a range of characteristics,” he said. “Age is one of them. Experience – but that doesn’t just limit it to the older crowd, so to speak. You want representation from, really, the cross-section of the team and really guys that represent the whole team, not just certain parts of the team. I’ve been around it at the two different spots that I’ve been at – both Philadelphia and Carolina – I’ve seen it work well.”

McDermott confirmed that the process of tabbing which men on his roster will serve the team in that capacity has already begun. He even shared that Lorenzo Alexanderhttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/lorenzo-alexander/ea2ec69f-3769-4aa9-be9a-8a661b96c3f7/), Micah Hydehttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/micah-hyde/a0651c9d-25fd-4c99-9548-2b837987bd50/), Tyrod Taylorhttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/tyrod-taylor/50822efc-81dc-4baa-8b40-65ac68a1ee00/) and Kyle Williamshttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/kyle-williams/58099d36-0140-417f-9874-283bd834d7cc/) are among the worthy candidates.

McCoy, DiMarco, Incognito, Kyle, Lorax, and Hyde should all be leaders this year.

I don't see Watkins, Dareus, Corey, Hughes having the personality for being a leader

But from college Shaq and Reggie seemed to be big personalities that the team/school rallied around

Fixed. One difference is that McDermott didn't come in and announce that "this team can win the Super Bowl." He also didn't come in and hire a bunch of young, inexperienced assistant coaches who didn't know what they were doing because he wanted to be the smartest guy in the room.

I think Watkins can be a leader.

He is saying the right things. The question that remains to be answered is will these words translate into success?

Hopefully he makes it clear to those he appoints that they are in charge in the locker room.

I see a lot of what Dan Quinn did early on in Atlanta in what McDermott is doing.

Not saying it will translate the same, but a similar mindset and tone setting from Day 1.

LOL. Do we need to remind you that Tyrod Taylor is not Matt Ryan?

What is McDermott doing that is like Quinn? Was a Falcons pool table put up on Craigslist?

i don't suppose he's going to get a custom painted Ford F-150 SuperCrew.... nothing speaks to leadership like a tricked out truck

Nothing speaks "Volumes of change" like a fresh paint job and a new Logo carpet.

Are you sure? Yes. Taylor has more letters in his name, which makes it pretty clear..
