Off-season plans- FA Defensemen?

So, looking at the current status: the Sabres have about $22 million in cap space.

The big name FA's are Gionta and Kulikov. Kulikov sucks and I can't imagine they'll pay to keep him. I have a lot of respect for Gionta but age has caught up with him. He is valuable for leadership and experience but easily replaceable in terms of on-ice skill at this point.

The biggest names in available FA defensemen are Markov, Weidman, and Pronger. Markov is old and Pronger is REALLY old. Weidman is 34 and likely isn't worth what he will get.

Can we buy out Ennis or Bogo?

Despite my feelings on Ennis, I'd take him over Bogo. Maybe they take one and we can buy out the other. I think that's almost another $10 million in cap space.

I'd also resign kulikov of he came cheap. Yes he was garbage, but he was also injured. I think if he can stay healthy he'll can return to the level he was expected to be at. He's better than Georges or bogo

I'd take Kulikov as a bottom pairing defenseman who can be a top 4 if we have an injury. If he's a regular top 4 guy, we're in trouble again.

Btw I was dreading the expansion draft but it looks like it won't be so bad.

Most likely losses are Ennis, Bogo, Larsson, Girgs, or Deslauriens. I'd hate to lose Deslauriens' toughness but we need to get rid of Ennis' and Bogo's contracts anyway and the other 3 aren't huge losses.

The articles I read were unclear on Carrier's eligibility- losing him is probably the worst possible outcome.

Basically, Murray knows he needs to make the playoffs to keep his job. He's going to be aggressive and you'll see improvement. Major improvement. A healthy Jack won't hurt either
