I think it sucks that he didn't come right out say Tyrod is the starter and that the rest will compete for the BU.

I'm glad McDermott said that, I wasn't happy when he said that Yates was here just as a back-up. Make them earn the spot.

Exactly, and rightly so.

Publicly, he isn't going to treat the QB position any different than any other position.

"Everybody has to come in and earn their spot, including myself."

"Blah, blah, blah" is what that means. Competition is what any game is all about entirely. Your team is built on competition internally, and then you compete against other teams that are trying to do the exact same things you are.

Not rocket science at all

Interestingly enough, McD didn't mention Yates in his comment...just Tyrod, Cardale and Peterman.

Week 1 against the Jets Tyrod will be the starter. Sheldon Richardson is going to do his best Mo Lewis imitation and change history forever.

Don't stoop to his level, buddy.

One Spiked is plenty, if not too much.

You're right. For some reason I find his obsession with Kim and Doug amusing though. I shouldn't feed. I know.

If this team starts out like 1-5 (which is possible given the schedule), I hope McDermott has the balls to pull the plug on Tyrod and ride one of the other guys the rest of the way. Not a bad year to go 4-12, and it will give them an opportunity to see what Jones/Peterman have before the 2018 draft. Downside is that you may throw a guy in there to get shell-shocked a la David Carr, but you gotta take that risk and hope they're mentally tough enough.

That "position" has been filled, thrilled, drilled, rebuild by Tre'Davious.

Brady was 4th string his rookie year-he impressed the Patriots enough to keep 4 QBs. A better possibility is that Peterman has a rookie Russell Wilson-like preseason & beats out the higher paid veteran.

LOL Taylor would have to be pretty freaking bad to not beat out a 5th round rookie.

Perhaps, but for 17 years, it's been "wait 'til next year." Year after year. :tap:

per the bills website
While the Bills currently have five quarterbacks on the roster, Peterman is a name to follow as he has received high praise from around the league for the pick. He will most likely try and compete for the No. 2 job behind Tyrod Taylorhttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/tyrod-taylor/50822efc-81dc-4baa-8b40-65ac68a1ee00/) this upcoming season.

I think you can have a competition while have the expectation of a particular winner (Tyrod). What I find interesting in the quote from McDermott is he specifies a competition among Tyrod, Nate Peterman and Cardale Jones, but does not mention TJ Yates. That makes me wonder, if Cardale does well in training camp and preseason, is there a chance that Buffalo cuts Yates and retains both Peterman, and Jones on the 53 man roster along with Tyrod?

I would guess that is what they would want.

Yates is a tease like TT is.

Neither is a long-term answer.
