per Wendi Nix of ESPN.

I do hope they interview more than just one candidate.

Rooney rule.

However see where that got them with the last guy.

They can't unless that candidate is a minority. Beane isn't, so they will interview at least 1 more candidate-then they'll name Beane GM.

Not really, though.

Whaley was hired in 2010 to be groomed to be the next GM after the old-timer Buddy Nix was gone, as far as I remember.

That's right.

I thought the Rooney rule was only for HCs.

I thought the Rooney rule was only for HCs.

The rule was expanded in 2009 to cover "lead personnel executives," such as general managers.

Mr. Beane being our GM would be a fitting name.

This is the pick. But they'll interview the cat in KC too.

I believe 3 guys were listed that had direct ties to McDermott.

I've just said this elsewhere, but unless it's someone who has total faith in McDermott, it's going to be a hard sell, as you are pretty much going to stand or fall with him. For prospective GM candidates, that is, in effect, 'one HC and done'.

The one consolation in that, is that it means it will almost certainly be a guy who has strong ties to him, and will work with him. Doesn't mean he will be any good though. ;)

It's going to be Beane. They will bring in a John Guy like guy for an interview. But, it's going to be Beane.

Yesterday
Reporter to Terry: Any truth that you guys are interested in bringing in Carolina assistant GM Beane?

Pegula: None whatsoever. We haven't even started that process.

If they brought in John Guy for an interview that would be almost comical. He was fired in 2010 & I don't think he ever got another NFL job. He would be the perfect sham interview. "Hello John, what have you been doing lately" "I spend all day sitting at home playing Madden." "Thank for coming in, we'll let you know." Note to NFL office: We just interviewed John Guy, we are now in compliance of the Rooney rule. However, we've decided to go in a different direction and will be announcing the hiring of Brandon Beane as GM at 3PM.
