Punters aren't very exciting, but considering Colton Schmidt had the worst net yards per punt in the NFL last year, Austin Rekhow was pretty unanimously the highest ranked punter coming out of college so maybe he can help improve our special teams.

The DT from Pitt and LB from Georgia Tech are honestly the only names I know without looking any of them up.

I've never heard of any of the tryout players. Any intriguing or interesting prospects from that group?Jalin Robinette is a WR from the Air Force Academy with great size and OK speed. He had huge hands, and I've seen some encouraging scouting reports regarding his quickness and elusiveness. Underused at Air Force. What I'm confused about is the fact that I also saw a story that said the Air Force has ended their policy of granting deferrals from active service for academy grads who had the opportunity for an NFL career. The article specifically mentioned Robinette, and stated he would have to fulfill a two year military commitment .

Interesting invite. Big WR at 6-3 220. Just a 4.6 guy but his hands are catcher mitt size 10 7/8. Supposedly very talented. Wonder how his case will go. Something to watch.

Good evening, Mace!

I'm under the impression that Sean McDermott is going to implement his defense from Carolina that is not a Tampa 2 defense.

Is it safe to say the Bills aren't going to be running the Tampa 2?

Looks like a nickel defense (3-3-5 or 4-2-5) 70% of the time because the NFL is a passing league.

If it was a running league, the Bills would be the 2 time defending Super Bowl Champions in 2017.

But...the eventual outcome of the nickel defense that is so popular to defend the pass in the NFL today will result in the return of the running game.

Is the NFL really cyclical like that, or will the pass forever be dominant?

That all depends on the future of NFL quarterbacks.

The next Brady, Kelly, Elway, Marino, Roethlisberger, Favre? I don't see it.

Help me, Mace. I am confounded.

The Bills are no longer under threat from the Frazier Special, and the NFL is headed where in terms of the passing game?

Drew Brees had a great year in 2016. Saints defense sucked, but I thought if you had a franchise QB the defense doesn't matter?

End rant.

I'm surprised Robinette wasn't at least a UDFA. I thought he would land somewhere based on his physical traits. Air Force runs that damn triple option BS and throws downfield as often as Trent Edwards so you know he learned squat there.

Yeah, no idea why he wasn't an undrafted free agent at the least. Hopefully that our gain.

Help me, Mace. I am confounded.

I'm always here for you, Imp.

Tampa-2 DC, LB coach, DB coach, smallish T2 lb's, and McDermott not being the DC and not bringing in McDermott D guys from Carolina, lead me to think it is what it looks like and more power to you and those who don't think so if it isn't, in which case he brought in people for a system he doesn't intend to run and presents a different bunch of issues.

Can he overcome those issues ? No idea, it's all good if he can. For that matter if it's Tampa 2 and works I won't give a crap either by now.

Strikes me as odd though, Imp, how everything can point to obvious conclusions these days that people just struggle with accepting, like there is some secret thing going on that makes the obvious less obvious and requires extra brain power to decipher to get past the obvious.

In any case though, I'm always here for you old son, when you get confounded.

His agent is trying finagle Robinette's way out of that commitment, but odds are he's not going to be available until the 2019 season.

well mcdermott coached a version of the T2 for his whole career and brought in Frazier who is a T2 defensive coach. Not sure why no one expected this when he was hired.

Never heard that about Zach Brown, you have a link ?

As for Ragland, incorrect :

Ragland will get that chance on the field starting as early as this weekend. Because he didn’t take a snap for the Bills, he is likely eligible to participate in Buffalo’s rookie minicamp. We are awaiting confirmation.
UPDATE: Ragland was not included on the Bills rookie minicamp roster. Kolby Listenbee, a 2016 draft pick who missed all of last year, is on the roster. It’s unclear why Ragland won’t participate but is likely for precautionary reasons.

LB Abner Logan was originally at Maryland before transferring (I assume directly) to Albany.

DT Donte Wilkins is familiar from recruiting, but don't recall him doing anything in college.

And this honestly makes me sad:

DE Jamari Ford (6-2, 234) - Miles

Even in vast majority of college programs this kid would be a LB at that size.

No link in ZB but at $2.3M for the year, which is a pittance, it's clear they weren't too keen on keeping him and/or he didn't want to return.

As for Ragland, he tweeted out a few days ago "cleared!"

Right after McDermott was hired, someone on the inside told me Alexander would get a short term offer and Z.Brown wasn't a priority at all. Still saw him as an inside LB and Ragland and Preston Brown were already there. I just watched and it played out that way.

They will have more CB's/S's on the field in this D for short zone coverage. I have no opinion on it but that's what McDermott seems to want. Drafted a couple hybrid types in rounds 5 & 6. Telling.

I get the fascination with P. Brown at MLB, but to me he has more value filling in as a WLB and staying on in Nickle packages to help in coverage. I trust the coach, but I just don't see Brown as the gap filler that is required for this defense.

You would think that after 9-10 months he would be able to at least run through plays in his gym shorts.

ACL tear repair, I think the timeline on that is still 7-12 months. His happened last August, so he's eight months removed.

Apparently his recovery is on schedule with him running, he's just not cutting yet.

I'd sit him until training camp. Have him attend all workouts and practices until then, but give his knee as much time to heal as possible.
