    McDermott, Frazier, defense...

    Never saw this mentioned.

No secret I hate Tampa-2, which I felt was telegraphed by Frazier, LB, and DB coaches. bit when TBN talked to Frazier he said :

“We had a system that we talked about prior to getting here and it was based on a 4-3, not anything that has happened here in the past and we tried to really put that conceptually together and we feel good about the direction that it’s gone.”

Maybe...just maybe...could we be seeing the birth of a new defensive scheme ? Have to figure it will have heavy cover-2 influence no matter, but it caught my interest.

        Re: McDermott, Frazier, defense...

I always thought that a new defensive position should be made. Every player type has a position, but there is no position for a 6-5 210-230 lb defensive player. So we have TEs and big bodied wide receivers, we have no defensive position

Eventually teams will run more of a 4-2 with 3 safetys, one player being this stature. Think about it, RB/FB are also linebackers, OL are DL, small WRs are CBs and safeties. QBs are punters and kickers. There is no defensive player for the player type of a big TE, and big WR. With how much of an exploit TEs and big WRs are, we will eventually have a different position
Not here to be right, just here to have interesting discussions about my impulsive opinions

I'd guess the average size of a TE in today's game is probably about 250 lbs. You might be hard pressed to find a TE playing at 230 lbs. There are some pretty good DE's that play around 250 lbs. (maybe a little heavier). Jerry Hughes who most likely will be moved back to DE is just over 250 lbs.

With D minded HC McDermott obviously the boss here, the D was going to be his D.

He was never going to let Frazier do whatever he wanted. They worked together years back in a Jim Johnson D in Philly and it was strictly a guy he knew and trusted.

            TAMPA 2 ! TAMPA 2 ! WOLF,WOLF,WOLF ! Sure played well upon his hire.

Whoa lil' buckaroo ! It would be good if they have the right number of players on the field for a series first.

                      That was such an embarrassment.

Did Rob Ryan NOT watch Sesame Street when he was growing up? That fat MF'er could not count to 11.

Dunno, you could probably also interpret his statement as Tampa-2, but I'm trying to be optimistic.

That is really all we can do at this point.

Always and ever until the death rattle gets too loud to ignore. I mean, something has to work someday.

We've already got Mike, Sam and Will, maybe we can refer to the misfit tweener as 'Mace'.

"Yeah, but who are we going to start at Mace?" has a nice flow and sounds pretty cool.
