Buffalo’s penchant for adding cornerbacks to their roster continued on Thursday with the signing of free agent Greg Mabin.
Mabin, 22, was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month. He had signed as an undrafted rookie with the Bucs after the 2017 NFL draft, but after a hamstring injury limited him in the team’s rookie minicamp he was released.
A two-year starter in college at Iowa, Mabin (6-2, 200) is a long cornerback who posted 144 tackles, three interceptions, 19 pass breakups, a pair of forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He saw a lot of passes thrown his way playing opposite Desmond King, a fifth-round pick of the L.A. Chargers.
Mabin is also young at the cornerback position having only played there since 2013 when he was converted by the Iowa coaching staff after joining the Hawkeyes as a wide receiver.
To make room on the roster for Mabin, the Bills released safety Jonathan Dowlinghttp://www.buffalobills.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/jonathan-dowling/018f9b91-7a7d-4a69-8996-57da533ec6c3/).

Maybin (6'2" - 200 lbs.) is bigger than our starting safeties. Maybe they are looking at him as a possibility there.

I heard on the radio that if the bills end up cutting a certain amount of FA's they signed they could end up with a draft picks? :idunno:

I think the secret compensatory draft pick formula takes games played into account, so I guess it's possible.

Good point. Especially considering they released a safety to make room for him. A change of position could be exactly what he needs to get his career back on track.

Maybe Mabin is going to play the Mace. Or at least be a back-up for Hyde if he starts there.

I guess this is progress in that we are signing CBs as free agents rather than continually drafting them in the 1st round....wait...what?

Hmph.

I could change it to the 'Spooge if you really don't like it. I though it was complimentary.

Scouting Report from NFL.com - http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/greg-mabin?id=2557899

Physical corner who lacks top end athleticism. He saw a lot of throws last year opposite King and failed to consistently win his battles.

Hopefully he's not related to Aaron in any way

Considering it was Aaron Maybin and he's Greg Mabin, I highly doubt it.

Probably very similar results rushing the passer
