No one doubts that new 49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/8461/marquise-goodwin) is a great athlete. An Olympic long jumper, Goodwin is one of the best athletes in football. But Goodwin wants to prove he’s more than just a track and field star who plays some football on the side.
“I know a lot better things are in store (http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/goodwin-expects-jump-new-lengths-49ers-offense),” Goodwin said of leaving Buffalo for San Francisco this offseason. “I’m running a lot of different routes that I never had the opportunity to run before. I’m just excited. I’m excited I can assume a different role. People assumed I couldn’t run routes. So when they actually see me run routes, they’re like, ‘Wow, this dude’s fast and he can stop fast and he can run routes, and he can catch.’ It sickens me that people would think I’m just this fast dude who can’t run routes or can’t catch.”
Goodwin said the 49ers are learning just how well he uses his speed.
“I’m always open and I’m fast. And I say that in the most humble tone –not to be arrogant. I’m just confident I’ll be open. And I’m fast,” he said.
Despite missing some offseason work while focusing on the long jump, Goodwin had his most productive season last year, catching 29 passes for 431 yards and three touchdowns. This year in San Francisco he believes he’s due for bigger things.

Goodwin was open a lot, but unless he was taking it to the house, there was like a 40% chance of injury upon the tackle.

Goodwin may have had his sports confused because they do NOT tackle you in Long Jump.

Being "open" in San Francisco may not mean exactly the same thing as elsewhere.

The 49ers trainer will be busy.

He probably had better QB's here than he will there.

He'd better vow to actually be on the field.

He's right. He was a much better weapon in college, then he was told to run 9 routes.

Not really The Bills' fault that he wasn't healthy enough to be on the field for 9 plays to actually run every route on the tree.

Marquis Goodwin should be vowing to be stay on the field after he gets hit instead of vowing to be open. Dude only played in 33% of the games in Buffalo. He's a waste of a roster spot. Good riddance.

the funny thing is if you remember, t.j. graham was SOOOOO bad that Goodwin seemed at the time to be a huge upgrade (which he honestly was)

He cares more about his long jumping than he does football.

Classic case of nobody getting a better seat than the fans. Losing Goodwin makes us better, not worse.
