View Full Version : Jeremy Maclin leaves Baltimore without deal!

Another visit has come and gone for Jeremy Maclin (http://www.nfl.com/player/jeremymaclin/80429/profile).
The free-agent wide receiver, who was stunningly released (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000812941/article/chiefs-release-wide-receiver-jeremy-maclin) by the Chiefs (http://www.nfl.com/teams/kansascitychiefs/profile?team=KC) on Friday, has departed Baltimore without a deal.
Ravens (http://www.nfl.com/teams/baltimoreravens/profile?team=BAL) coach John Harbaugh told reporters Thursday he enjoyed a "great visit" (https://twitter.com/Ravens/status/872885605448941568) with Maclin, but offered no assurance that a deal was imminent.
"He's going to go back. We didn't press him to stay," Harbaugh said. "I think talking to his wife is really important. He's got a wedding this weekend, so he wants a little more time to make up his decision. ... The main thing is, you want guys to be happy. If they come here, or wherever they go, you want them to look back and say, 'I made the best decision of my life to do that.'"
Maclin also met with (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000813422/article/jeremy-maclin-visits-ravens-after-meeting-with-bills) the Bills (http://www.nfl.com/teams/buffalobills/profile?team=BUF) this week, but NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the sides couldn't see eye-to-eye over the "financials" (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap3000000813791/Jeremy-Maclin-and-Bills-hung-up-on-salary-WR-will-visit-Ravens?platform=hootsuite) of a potential pact.
Both the Bills (http://www.nfl.com/teams/buffalobills/profile?team=BUF) and Ravens (http://www.nfl.com/teams/baltimoreravens/profile?team=BAL) make plenty of sense as landing spots (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000813028/article/potential-landing-spots-for-jeremy-maclin) for Maclin, but they likely won't be the only suitors.
Garafolo reported Monday that he expects four or five teams to chase after the 29-year-old Maclin, who is coming off an injury-plagued down season. ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported that the Browns (http://www.nfl.com/teams/clevelandbrowns/profile?team=CLE) have interest in the veteran. Eagles (http://www.nfl.com/teams/philadelphiaeagles/profile?team=PHI) coach Doug Pederson said Thursday the team won't sign Maclin (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000813028/article/potential-landing-spots-for-jeremy-maclin).
Bottom line: This won't be the last story you read on the sought-after, pass-catching Maclin. Stay

His agent has him convinced he will get $10M this year.

At that price, he will not be getting any offers.

I still like our chances of landing Maclin.

Clearly no one is willing to offer him top end money at this point. Unless he's interested in going to Cleveland, but why? Who would waste their career in a horrible (and hopeless) rebuild situation like that?

Hopefully the Bills can slightly up their offer so we can get that much needed no.2 WR in Buffalo and Maclin can save face by getting a bit more money.

Some Bills fans think we're not as bad as Cleveland because we win a few more games each year.

Um, yeah, that would be the definition of being better than Cleveland.

From an outsider point of view, both are depressed rust belt areas that can't win the big one. The Browns have also been to the playoffs this millennium so let's not throw stones in a glass house.

Yes, it is. Does that mean "closer to being a really good team"? I'm not so sure. If the Browns end up with Darnold, then probably not.

First off, they'll have competition in the Jets. Second of all, Darnold has to declare next year and he might not if the Browns have the pick. Third, if he does come out, he'll have to prove it.

Surprisingly there's at least one franchise more pathetic than our own.

Take that mother ****ers, we're only 31st instead of 32nd.

It's about the best comfort we're gonna get as Bills fans.

From 2000-2016, total wins = (including playoffs)

Buffalo 111
Houston 108
Jacksonville 107
Oakland 107
Detroit 95
Cleveland 86

I don't think Cleveland making the playoffs one time 15 years ago supercedes everything else this century.

We had no chance to win a championship this millennium, after a good time during the 90's.

Houston does not count as worse as they were not even a team until 2002 so they have less wins but a higher winning percentage

Much of Detroit's suck was under Millen, but since 2009 they have been competitive.

Okay, I confess Cleveland does suck (those poor people) as does Oakland (but they might finally be turning the corner) and London is going to be the first NFL team in Europe.

Houston wouldn't of fit the narrative so he had to try and find something, creatively he did.

None on my part. Not been reported, as far as I know.

But I think the Ravens are interested in Eric Decker from the Jets too...maybe in a trade.

Here is an interesting stat I've read:

Records for the past four years...
Ravens - 31-33
Bills - 30-34

Not like Maclin is going gravitate to the "winning team" as much as people want to say such things.

Ravens passing stats over those 4 years - 15,780 yards, 87 TDs
Bills passing yards over those 4 years - 13,096, 79 TDs

That's almost 700 yards and 2 extra TDs per season up for grabs. Maybe that swings his vote, who knows.

I'm OK with whatever choice he makes, I just don't want him to be on a 1 year deal in Buffalo.

And the Bills mailed-in last year's season-ender.

And the Bills went to the SB 4 times in a row in the 90's. Both mean nothing today.

Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2013, with the same coach and QB. Try to be objective and not look at it as a Bills fan. If you're a WR, do you want to go to a team with a Super Bowl winning coach and QB or to a team that relied on it's running game with the leagues 30th ranked passing offense last year, 32nd in pass attempts. BTW Baltimore led the league in pass attempts last season, with 204 more than Buffalo. But realistically it's all probably moot, since Maclin is at the age where he's no longer trying to make a name for himself, just get paid.
