Report: QB Yates Showing Well At Mini-Camp

Early of course...but encouraging. I just root for the laundry. And while some imagine a 5th round rookie as the next guy...this..
From Joe B. at Ch.7 ABC

Veteran backup T.J. Yates conducted as good of a drive as possible for the situation at hand. Yates went on to conduct a 14-play drive down the field, in which he completed nine passes, that ultimately resulted in a touchdown throw to Nick O'Leary on fourth-and-goal. And Yates should have had a touchdown on second-and-goal, for what it's worth. Yates manipulated the cornerback with his eyes, freed up wide receiver Philly Brown in the end zone, made the accurate throw, and the ball bounced off Brown's hands and fell to the turf -- the cleanest of drops that you'll see. In the backfield, Yates went from elation to frustration in the matter of half-of-a-second. This was an encouraging sight for the Bills, mainly because the play of their backup quarterbacks this spring -- and even the play of Tyrod Taylor for that matter -- has left much to be desired. This was the strongest showing of all the Bills backups options to this point in time.

Well, you hit the nail on the head with the word "imagine". Easier to imagine a fresh maybe than 30 year old maybe on his 5th team jump in 7 years. Peterman still has "The One" potential to the fan base, though to me at least, Yates has better "hold the fort" potential. Thing is, not many want to hold the fort over trials for The One, if prematurely.

TT was always viewed by me as the bridge QB to get us to the next guy with talent.

Yates may be just a better bridge QB until "he" arrives next year.

Well me too, regarding Taylor. Thing is Yates probably isn't, simply because he doesn't fit their evident crazy legs QB profile. Taylor is excellent at elusive and sprinting for yards (which will of course get him good and creamed eventually). Yates is probably a pure backup who could survive the bridge and bridge the bridge if needed, imho.

I suppose we need to stop bridging to bridges. Mean time, I'm fine with Yates on the roster and don't see the point of going all or nothing on Peterman until he earns it on demonstrated promise.

If Yates somehow plays lights out over Taylor though, the decision makes itself.

Since they're not wearing pads, this is GFS.

Yeah. No. A QB using his eyes to throw off the CB is not just a GFS. It's nice to hear these things from mini-camp.

Yates maybe better than Tyrod Taylor?

Tyrod isn't Rodgers or Brady or even Carr but he's a solid third tier QB and his mobility alone gives our offense a dimension no other team has.

But his inability to throw to the middle of the field cancels that out.

When it comes to passing only, I would expect Yates to have a more rounded skill set. He's done some good things in the league. He's got some experience. Obviously no QB in the league can run like Taylor. The question the Bills are going to have to try and answer with Taylor is, has he already reached his ceiling as a passer or can Dennison's system and the present QB coach pull more out of him as a passer. If not, his days are numbered.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

Re-watch his last few games and its evident he made improvements in that area.

Cleveland and Seattle showed he can do it. Dennison's offense will ask TT to make those throws.

Yates may also be more familiar with Dennison since the latter was Yates' OC in Houston for 3 years

That's the whole reason Yates is here. He's part backup QB, part assistant coach. He's not going anywhere. Nor is Peterman.

Cardale shouldn't buy any green bananas.
