16 year old kids shouldn't die from heatstroke caused during supervised high school athletics.

6-5 320 pounds as a junior! He was a big kid. He had future NFL lineman written all over him

We might also ask why this child's parents allowed their very seriously obese, near-morbid obese kid is on the field in the first place.

I can not even imagine the pain his family and friends are in right now.

            Prayers.

Maybe they wanted him to get in better shape ?? It's a tragedy in any case.

                Hydration....hydration....hydration.

Can't say it enough....especially down there.

I always wondered how even the pros dealt with that searing heat in camp, much les the high schools, who start classes in the middle of August.

Jeez, what a tragedy. I remember those two-a-day August practices in 100-degree heat when I was in high school. Tons of conditioning work and not nearly as many water breaks as you'd like. Not saying it was the case here, but there are too many coaches out there who think that practice needs to be brutal in order to build a team with character.

Maybe they were hoping he would get in a better shape instead of the shape, round.

That's what I was thinking as well, get him outside and working out. He was a very big boy, 320lbs / 6'5" is a big frame.

                        Exactly.

Even NFL players have died from heat stroke. A lot of you guys probably remember Korey Stringer. He died around the time these forums popped up.

If coaches are going to insist their players practice in dangerously hot weather, they better make sure they're hydrated.

Hydration doesn't really matter that much with guys that large. The core body temp climbs to temperatures that sweating isn't going remedy. Most of these guys lack the endurance training to stimulate additional blood plasma, even if they are hydrated they don't have enough blood plasma to take advantage of it (blood close to the skin cools from sweating and is recirculated to cool the core-body).

THE only thing sadder than this is teenage suicide.

That absolutely brings tears to my eyes.
