    Sean McDermott avoiding 'rebuilding' label

New coach Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane hope to revive the moribund Bills, and the first step is reshaping a roster full of question marks.

McDermott has brought a more meticulous and measured management style he hopes will begin to change the culture around the NFL's seventh-worst team (66-94) since 2007. Training camp will begin to reveal whether the Bills, who finished last season with a 7-9 record, have any hope of ending their 17-year playoff drought in a division that again projects to be dominated by the New England Patriots. As a first-year coach facing the NFL's fifth-hardest schedule, the odds are stacked against McDermott succeeding in the short term, but he refuses to use the word "rebuild" to describe the philosophy being embraced by him and new general manager Brandon Beane. "That's not it at all. It's about winning football games," McDermott said in June. "Our goals are to win now, because winning now helps you sustain success down the road."

I like his attitude, I hope he can translate it to the player's performance on the field. Playoffs.

Of course he's not gonna say "rebuilding." First, he has to keep his players motivated and they aren't going to be motivated if the coach thinks they're "rebuilding," because that's a nice way of saying "this year is training camp for next year. Second, Russ Brandon has to sell tickets and he's not gonna do that if fans think we are rebuilding. So my guess is the whole org has orders from the top to not say that públicly.

No coach/gm in the history of the modern day NFL has said "we are rebuilding"

When the Jets reach 0-10 and Todd Bowles is begging to keep his job, you'll hear it.

31 teams rebuild every year, call it what you will.

He shouldn't be calling it a "rebuild", because it isn't. Its a team that's hovered at .500 for the past several years and needs to take a step forward, rather than 2 steps back.

Rebuilding, rather than building on what was there, is what keeps this franchise stuck in the mud.
