So do we even care what the final score is?

What are you hoping to see?

Personally, I just want to see some hope that this OL can be average or better this year -- Shady and TT need it to be.

Only thing I care about are injuries. I don't put any stock into preseason game results, at least as far as the starters are concerned. It's just an opportunity for guys on the bubble to show something.

I don't pre-season games any more.

Not worth the effort to come down there.

1. No, I don't care about the final score. That said I want a TD from our first string and I want 3 or 0 allowed by our first string D

2. I want to see no injuries

3. I want to see potential and big plays from our rookie and second year draft picks

4. I want to see smart, mistake free football.

5. I want to see disciplined play.

I don't care about the final score, and first preseason game isn't a great indicator.

McDermott said starters will play about a quarter give or take, and then it's about guys fighting for a roster spot, so...

-I'd like to see Taylor showing signs of passing development from the pocket.
-Use of the middle of the field in the passing game, a few plays.
-How the WR's beyond the top 3 play.

If I can watch the game, I'd want to pay attention to DE Yarborough, TE Thomas, DT Adolphus, LB's Ragland, Vallejo, Milano, Hodges,OL Dawkins, Groy, K/P Rehkow, RB Williams, backup DB's because we'll use a lot of them, QB Peterman.

Effort and enthusiasm from guys trying to win jobs and more focus than Ryan's teams ever had.

Just heard an interesting factoid from yesterday's John Murphy Show. Under their current head coach, the Vikings are 12-1 in preseason. Apparently, Zimmer likes to use the preseason to build some momentum for the season.

QB draft class talk ramps up by the 11 minute mark.

Does Sammy last the first series? I mean it's only 3 downs.

Sammy's injury rep precedes him these days.

How soon before Kevin Kolb connects with Sammy Watkins for a TD in the intensive care unit?

I give it a couple weeks assuming there's no rubber floor mat to slip on.

And again, the score is not what I will be looking uh listening for. Good disciplined mistake free play by the first and second stringers, no injuries, and a solid performance resulting on 7 by our starters and a good defensive stand on the few series our starting D will be in will satisfy me.

Our dog jumped off a chair the other day and must have landed wrong on his back paw, because he yelped. He then limped to the bedroom for a while and came out OK a while later.

I call him Sammy now.

Our Offensive Tackles suck, Glenn being the exception, and the Vikings OTs are also poop, but man Yarbrough is working these fools.

Edit: Yeah, I agree with that Yardrat, he's about as close to 250 as Aaron Maybin.

YardRat
08-10-2017, 07:20 PM
Williams did look good, but so did the left side of the oline...dominant run blocking. Yarbrough is the obvious stand-out on defense so far.

Not impressed with Taylor...at all. Pitch and catch with Sammy doesn't thrill me, and even those throws weren't as accurate as they should have been.

Scumbag College

Great First Halves:

Yarbrough
Jonathan Williams

Good:

Leonard Johnson- all over the place near the ball
Elston- Making plays and was jobbed on that PI
Sammy- Throw him the damn ball
Schmidt- Banged a punt and then nicely placed a fair catch at the 9
Humber- did his job and made plays. Stayed with the TE in coverage nicely
Adolphus Washington- clogged the holes and made hustle plays on runs to the outside and short passes
Tolbert- looks like Ironhead Heyward out there
Philly Brown- made some tough catches on bad Yates throws
O'Leary

So So:

Tyrod- Did well when he stuck to the three and five step drops and let go of the ball
Incognito- Nice block on a pull play but then a really stupid holding penalty that wasn't needed at all

No good:

Ducasse
Banyard
Yates

Biggest problems, seem to be depth. Thought a few guys stepped up quite well, but not necessarily in areas we would be too worried about in the first place.

Ones, on both O and D, I thought looked quite decent. Mistakes there, tended to come from known weaker links, and we did have a couple of starters out.

Williams did well, and is definitely going to be an asset as the #2 RB.

I liked the fact that they were in and out of the huddle promptly, as it was a pretty large source of frustration last year, when they weren't, ever - even when they were in 2 minute drills.

Peterman looked like good value for a 6th rounder. He might not have that good of an arm on the long throws, but showed plenty of zip on the short and intermediate stuff, and on those throws, looks like he won't have any problems with the Buffalo weather. Showed decent wheels, and how to get rid of the football before getting sacked, which is something Taylor will need to improve on, although he didn't have any real options last night.

Yates looked poor, even though Tasker seemed to put more of the blame on his receivers, with plenty of comments about guys not getting their heads turned around in time. On a couple of those occasions, I'd have to say I agree with him, but it wasn't on everything, and Yates was also inaccurate. With his scrambling ability, Peterman already looks like a more natural #2 in the offence than Yates does.

Yarborough is a steal, even if he doesn't start, he's a great pick up for depth.

LBers aren't great. They did show plenty of hustle to the football, but didn't make enough plays on it when they got there. Similarly the CBs. Mostly there didn't seem to be too many communication breakdowns, but there were quite a few missed/messed up tackles. There did appear to be some talent there though, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the improve a lot as the season progresses. I'm less inclined to say the same about the LBers. Unless Ragland gets into the mix. Whoever made the comment about us keeping a lot of LBers, and having a lot of different packages for them, might have the right of it. We may need to use them that way to get the best out f their abilities, as we don't really seem to have much in the way of 3 down LBers atm.

WRs have once again flattered to deceive at TC. Watkins aside, anyone who was wondering why we signed Boldin, saw it last night.
