    Philly Perspective on WR Matthews

We reached out to our friends at SB Nation’s Eagles blog for some insight on the Bills’ newest receiver

After the initial shock of yesterday’s trades wore off, it was time to start finding out about the newest members of the Buffalo Bills. We reached out to Bleeding Green Nation’s Brandon Gowtin for some insight into Jordan Matthews, the guy who will be taking Sammy Watkins’ place on the depth chart in 2017.
This is not a ringing endorsement.

He is a frustrating player to watch.

    So inconsistent historically.

        Stevie has better hands.

        Stevie runs better routes.

        Matthews is a better athlete.

There's a better athlete than Stevie? Why did Jesus do that to him?

            Jordan Matthews stats:

Year REC YDS AVG LNG TD
            2016 73 804 11.0 54 3
            2015 85 997 11.7 78 8
            2014 67 872 13.0 44 8

            Total 225 2,673 11.9 78 19

            Sammy Watkins Stats

            2016 28 430 15.4 62 2
            2015 60 1,047 17.5 63 9
            2014 65 982 15.1 84 6

            Total: 153 2,459 16.1 84 17

Pretty close and I would say the NFC East was tougher than the AFC East during the 3 year period?

For the record he's an incredible character guy. Not every player who helps you win has to be elite. He may end up being better for this team than Sammy.

And for the record Sammy hasn't been a game changer.

I don't think anybody can honestly give Sammy a 'ringing endorsement' without including qualifiers regarding health and potential.

That's not really a fair observation. Matthews works almost exclusively in the slot and when he was asked to work outside in 2016 his numbers dipped.

So do we know where he will line up here and if he would have stay in the slot you're saying his numbers would have been even better?

Re: Philly Perspective on WR Matthews

Jordan Matthews is a bum. A pedestrian slot receiver in a contract year. He won't be here in 2018.

Every veteran on this team must feel completely betrayed by McDermott and Beane.

No one is going to bust their ass for these guys. I hope every veteran I like gets traded to a contender and we simply forfeit the season without playing any games. Utterly pointless.

What the hell assumptions am I making? It's the ****ing title of the article.

And sure, McCoy said some nice stuff in 2014 when Matthews was a rookie. And McCoy was wrong. Jordan Matthews didn't wind up being the best WR in that draft class, now did he?

What McCoy said about the trade is refreshing. He wasn't being a company man about it. He knows we just got worse.
