Is Shaq Lawson the real deal?

Reports in the Buffalo News through out training camp have Shaq standing out at DE. Lots of pressures and potential sacks.

When I watched him in a 'real' game vs. the Ravens Saturday he looked VERY AVERAGE! No pressure and no sacks. For the game he had just one (1) tackle and that was against Baltimore's 2nd line players. He resembled the Shaq we saw at the end of last season. Nothing special!!!

Will he be the next bust from previous drafts???

Not expecting much, or even anything from this guy...

Didn't like him in Clemson and I don't like him here.

This guy generated no pressure whatsoever last year despite playing on a fairly stacked D line that eats up a lot of potential blockers. For a young guy that's supposedly a great athlete, he doesn't seem to be very explosive or powerful at all. But, I guess it was still a good idea to pick him b/c he played for the same college team as Rex's son.

I can still remember all the "wait till Lawson and Ragland are healthy" post on BBMB.
I'm really not expecting a lot from Lawson. Hopefully he'll surprise and have a good year, but it wouldn't be shocking to see him fall behind Yarbrough as the starting end.

seriously don't you think real teams are just watching our team like buzzards waiting to scrape any meat left on the bone at a big discount?

He came off an injury and wasn't a fit in the Rex system. If our vets were confused under Rex ,I don't expect a rookie who never played in a 3-4 system to do anything either. If he has the heart to play, I expect him to do just as much as that pea heart sized Mario Williams in the 4-3.

As for Ragland, never saw the field and isn't a fit or knows the 4-3.

Using systems as an excuse only goes so far. Lawson appeared in 10 games last year and did nothing. A tackling dummy could of put up similar stats. It's starting to look like "he didn't fit the system" is the new excuse for not being good.

So far? He's was a rookie who had stupid coaches . YOu can't judge a player int eh wrong system for 10 games. You would have given up on Jerry Hughes who btw, also wasn't as good as himself under Schwartz.

I would tend to agree with you if he was the only one who sucked but how is it that everyone all of a sudden sucked under Rex once Shwartz left (except for Alexander) ? Lets not forget that they were already confused under Rex and then he brought in his brother who made it even worse? I'm not saying Lawson will all of a sudden be a probowl player but you can't design plays to make Peyton Manning run the ball.

well, my favorite personal whipping boy Robert Royal has been gone for a while. I moved on to McFumbles eventually now I'm still searching.
                        I came.
                        I saw.

I didn't write the thread because I wanted Shaq to be a whipping boy. It was just an observation based on his performance. He just looks very ordinary.

                            Gilmore's gone now too.

Sneaky feeling it will be Holmes if he makes the team.

If you read his scouting report Lawson is more of a keep the edge left DE type with some pass rush skills. He may never get more than 10 sacks in a season but if he can muster up 40-50 tackles and 8 sacks I'd be more than happy.
