one word contrast, when the Sabres started televising their games many Sabres fans were confused as they thought the Sabres were wearing purple because of when the lighting at the rinks wasn't that great and when the light shone on the jerseys it made them look purple on TV and if you took pictures of the blue jersey with a flash the flash would make the jersey look purple also, the Sabres even got dozen of letters asking why the jerseys looked purple, over the years the Sabres would tweak the royal blue away jerseys by making them darker
