DETROIT (AP) -- Michigan defensive back Marlin Jackson, the preseason Big Ten defensive player of the year, has been charged with felonious assault and aggravated assault, a prosecutor said.

A warrant was filed Thursday afternoon in Washtenaw County Court, first assistant prosecutor Konrad Siller said Friday. No arraignment date has been scheduled, a court clerk said.

If convicted of the felony, the 20-year-old Jackson could face up to four years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

Siller declined to discuss details of the situation from which the charges arose. An Ann Arbor police spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

"The allegations against Marlin Jackson are serious," coach Lloyd Carr said through a spokesman. "The facts will speak to the truth of the charges and to the resolution that will be determined."
