    Bucs Back Out for Season

First-year running back Tony Taylor will miss the 2003 season after sustaining an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee Saturday in Tokyo.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New York Jets, 30-14, in the ’03 American Bowl, then returned to Tampa, arriving early Sunday morning. On Sunday afternoon, Head Coach Jon Gruden provided an update on the injuries sustained during the game, of which Taylor’s is the most serious.

Tackle Cornell Green sustained a high ankle sprain and will be either questionable or doubtful for the Bucs’ game in Miami on Friday. Linebacker Jack Golden is also a good bet to miss the Dolphin game due to a shoulder stinger, but Gruden said Golden has a chance to return the following week against the St. Louis Rams.

“It’s unfortunate,” said Gruden of Taylor’s misfortune. “But all in all, (the Tokyo trip) was quite an experience. We are all trying to get ourselves re-acclimated as soon as possible to the American time zone. We are looking forward to cranking it up again on Tuesday morning, and we will meet with our players tomorrow evening.”
