Home -- that place with the comfy couch and the pitter-patter of little feet. Increasingly, teams have decided to stay home for training camp, eschewing the expense and hassle of traveling to a remote, usually hot, location to "bond" as a team.
The 49ers broke their 10-year association with Stockton five years early and are now conducting training camp at their Santa Clara complex. After a week of practices, the reviews have been rave.
"I feel you can practice better here," new coach Dennis Erickson said a few days ago in the breezy 80-degree weather. "We're here all the time, so we have all our computers. We have all the coaching stations, we have our own fields, our own locker room."...more
