    Rogers is fan favorite

Rookie could play Saturday in Lions' exhibition opener
DETROIT -- Charles Rogers gave the fans a little show -- with more to come. And soon, he hopes.

Rogers, the Lions' rookie receiver, was one of the stars of Sunday's practice at Ford Field, and he made little more than a cameo appearance. Rogers has been held out of drills since suffering a dislocated pinkie on his left hand in practice Tuesday.

If all goes according to plan, Rogers will resume practice by midweek and get some playing time in the first exhibition game against Pittsburgh on Saturday at Ford Field.

Meanwhile, Sunday's appearance by the young receiver from Michigan State and Saginaw was mostly for show.

Rogers says he'll miss preseason opener

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- Detroit Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers said Tuesday he likely will miss the team's preseason opener against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.

The No. 2 overall pick in the draft suffered an open dislocation in his left ring finger during a practice session a week ago, requiring two stitches.

Rogers expects the stitches to be removed by Friday.
