Traylor trailing in battle with Robinson

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.--The Bears released their first depth chart Monday in advance of the exhibition opener Saturday, and a few revealing evaluations were made clear.

Bryan Robinson, who missed Monday's afternoon practice to have a wisdom tooth removed, is listed as the starter at defensive tackle next to veteran Ted Washington. Defensive coordinator Greg Blache called the running ''real close,'' but Robinson has passed 12-year veteran Keith Traylor.

If the club makes it through the preseason healthy, tackle shapes up to be one of the positions of greatest depth, especially considering the improved play of Alfonso Boone in camp. A decision to keep all three will not come until just before the final roster cutdown because the Bears would be foolish to make a move without guarantees all around, and that would also expand time for any trade discussions. The Washington Redskins are known to be in the market for inside help after showing Dan ''Big Daddy'' Wilkinson they weren't playing chicken last week and waiving him after he refused to accept a renegotiated salary.
