Fringe didn't benefit
RIVER FALLS, Wis. — As the heavens opened over Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio, on Monday night, a small group of Packers fans – no doubt inspired by several trips to the concessions stands – danced in the aisles like children fresh out of school on a rainy day.
For fringe players with the Chiefs and Packers, the wild weather wasn't so welcome when the result was a game called near the middle of the third quarter. Those otherwise meaningless third and fourth periods are precious for the lesser-knowns who yearn to make their case for a roster spot.
One of those players was Chiefs defensive tackle Daniel Benetka, a 28-year-old free agent from Leipzig, Germany, who needs every rep he can get in his fourth stab at making an NFL roster....
