    Jags' Hayes has heat-related injury

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars had their third heat-related injury of the preseason Wednesday when wide receiver Donald Hayes dropped to a knee at the end of practice.

The Jaguars had just completed a 90-minute practice session and were divided into position groups when Hayes dropped and began struggling with the 82-degree heat. Hayes, 28, never lost consciousness, but started to spasm from cramps.

Paramedics assisted the Jaguars' medical staff and began giving fluids intravenously to Hayes, who weighs 220 pounds. He later was rushed into an ambulance before being transferred to Baptist Hospital.

The Jaguars' puzzling rash of heat-related training camp illnesses claimed a third victim yesterday when wide receiver Donald Hayes went down at the end of an abbreviated afternoon practice.

In what has now become a familiar sight at the Jaguars' camp, Hayes was treated on the field by athletic trainer Mike Ryan and his staff and was then rushed to Baptist Medical Center for treatment.

The Jaguars have had just 11 days of practice and have had to rush three players to the hospital after the heat felled them. Defensive lineman Larry Smith collapsed on the second day and defensive lineman John Henderson went down on the fourth day.

You think you're hot **** in a champagne glass, but you're really cold diarrhea in a Dixie cup!

Hayes back with team, but does not practice

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The ambulance idling next to the practice field was nothing new at the Jacksonville Jaguars' training camp. The attention it received was.

Jaguars players, suffering from the heat, are being rushed off to the hospital at an alarming rate -- three in 13 days of training camp. The latest, receiver Donald Hayes, cramped up at the end of practice Wednesday.

Hayes was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday night. He was back with the team Thursday, but did not practice.
