Mularkey predicting no jinx for Maddox

Kordell Stewart is gone from the Steelers, but his legacy lingers. Recently, Stewart's name was invoked regarding a potential "sophomore jinx" season for Maddox.
This has nothing at all to do with Maddox leaving UCLA after his sophomore season as a first-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 1992, which if not a jinx, was at least considered a mistake on both sides.

This so-called "sophomore jinx" phenomenon is the tendency of players to see their performance level slip after breakthrough seasons.

The reasoning for linking Stewart and Maddox went something like this:

Stewart had been a raging success in 1997, his first season as the starting quarterback for the Steelers, when he threw 21 touchdown passes and led the team to the AFC title game. In 1998, he slumped badly, throwing just 11 touchdown passes compared with 18 interceptions.
