BOURBONNAIS - More than anyone else, Mike Gandy will determine the fate of the Bears' offensive line this season.
The interior of the line is rock solid - with center Olin Kreutz and guards Chris Villarrial and Rex Tucker - provided the strained groin that kept Villarrial out of practice Wednesday is as minor as the Bears say it is.
Right tackle is a concern, but if Aaron Gibson stays healthy, that potential problem disappears.
More important is Gandy's progress at left tackle. It's the most critical position on the line because the left tackle almost always works against the opponent's best pass rusher.
Teammates and coaches have been impressed with the continuing progress shown by Gandy, a converted guard who never played left tackle before being thrown in there for the final six games of last season.
