Receiver C.J. Jones can thank his cousin, Brad Banks - the former Iowa quarterback and Heisman candidate - for his excellent chance of making the Browns roster as an undrafted rookie free agent.
When Banks made it to Iowa out of Hines Community College, he asked his new head coach Kirk Ferentz for a small favor.
"He said, 'Hey, can you take a look at my cousin?' " recalled Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, the former Browns offensive line coach. "And before you knew it, we had both of them on campus. If that hadn't happened, we never would've found C.J."
Ferentz plucked Jones out of Garden City Community College in Kansas, where he had just won two championships with his good buddy Ben Gay, the former Browns running back.
