SF Rookie's work ethic draws raves from vets

SANTA CLARA - Count veteran Bryant Young among those anxious to witness fellow defensive tackle Anthony Adams' debut in a 49ers uniform Saturday night.

"It's almost like he looks up to me as his big brother," Young, a 10-year veteran, said. "I'd like to put myself in some younger shoes. But the reality is I'm 10 years older, and as a rookie, you lean on the older guys more."

Adams, a second-round draft pick out of Penn State, will start alongside Young in the exhibition-season opener at Kansas City, coach Dennis Erickson announced Wednesday.

Quarterback Jeff Garcia won't play because of a back injury that flared up Tuesday, but he would have played only the first series anyhow, Erickson said.
