Whaley was a lame duck GM when McD was hired. He was kept around for input for the upcoming draft. The Pegulas hired McD and put him in charge. He had final say in the draft. He then recommended that Beane be considered for the GM position.

Then who was the brainiac that hired McD? Whaley? Pegula? Kissy Suzuki?

Why would anyone let someone that was targeted for the door decide the future of the team?

Word has it that they hired him on one condition...that he was to draft Peterman and then **** him up as soon as possible. ;)
